The usual things to try when you get syncing issues are:

If none of those ideas work for you then it’s probably best to contact customer support via: contact.fitbit.com

You need to get this fixed quite quickly as fitbits only have limited memory to store data between syncs. Depending on the model it can hold detailed data for up to 5 - 7 days after which is starts holding data at a daily summary level.

Thanks for your suggestions, Steve, but as a short-term user of a Fitbit Ionic that has not synced with the app since November 21, and with the battery draining rapidly (currently at 67% after being charged 11 hours ago), I'm going to try a different approach -- go back to my Garmin Vivofit 3 device which doesn't have sync and battery life problems. I can do this easily because I "bought" my Ionic with fitness points, so I'm not going to be out any real money by just setting it aside. Granted, I could have used those points on something more useful, like (unnamed well-known Internet shopping giant) gift cards, but that's life. I'm not going to play "dedicated I/T support rep" for a device that has some design flaw or bad firmware or whatever, life is too short and my time too valuable to do that for a glorified step counter. I am going to miss the large display on the Ionic. (Update: fixed a couple of typos)
