Too many steps recorded

I'm new to Fitbit. On Thursday I had a day of 7 hours of driving, & a days desk work with very little walking. This happens once a month. My new fitbit recorded me as having done almost 10K steps, which is impossible. Could it have miss counted by the movement of my wrist on the steering wheel? It has made me doubt the accuracy of fitbit.

Fitbit's statement on steps while driving.

However several people do still report recording steps while driving.

If it is a problem for you only once a month, there is a way to log a "Driving" activity to discount steps during a time period detailed here.

I have also seen references on these boards of some Android app that does something about automatically detecting and erasing steps while driving, but I forget the name and never researched it as I have not experienced this problem.

Before posting, re-read to see if it would make sense to someone else not looking at your Fitbit or phone.
