Unable to see Fitbit friends after migrating to Google account

I had lost some info on fitbit recently so uninstalled the app then reinstalled it to google not realising it wasn't on google before. Didnt think it would be an issue though until I realised my friends had gone. Like many others I've had fitbit for years and like to see my friends' activity. It helps to motivate me. Now I have nothing. I am really disappointed about this and it has put me off fitbit big time. Something needs to be done to resolve this.

Hi, @JoFy , unfortunately this does seem to have been a glitch in the migration from Fitbit accounts to Google accounts.  Fitbit is aware of the issue.  It will, of course, be resolved as soon as others also migrate to Google, but hopefully there will be an interim fix before the full switch over.

I hope it's not long before there is a solution to this problem. I'm
confused when you say there is a switchover. Does it mean Fitbit is
switching over to google or do the fitbit users have to physically switch
over to google themselves? And if that is so, will they be prompted to
switch over? I'm not fully understanding the situation.

Hi, @JoFy , Fitbit is now owned by Google, as you probably are aware.  Google have made the decision that all users must have Google accounts (email addresses) in order to log in.  This has already been implemented for new users who can now only create an account and log in using a Google email.  For existing users this is currently optional, but all users eventually will have switch to Google accounts in the near future.  I am not sure what the timescale for this is.  When it is fully implemented everyone will get a prompt to switch to a Google email address.

I hope that makes it clearer.

Thank you so much for the explanation. I actually hadn't realised that fitbit was now owned by google so that makes more sense to me now.

Much appreciated, thanks.

I moved to Google but can't get friends back on Fitbit. They have Gmail accounts and still can't find them. Help.

Hi, @Lyndacamp currently, if you have switched your Fitbit log in to Google, your Fitbit Friends list won’t show any friends who do not use Google as their Fitbit log in.  It is not enough to have a Google email address.  They must use it for Fitbit.  The Fitbit team is aware of this issue.

Thank you.

@Julia_G  Yet another reason my current Fitbit will be my last. The ongoing troubles with the changes to the app, syncing, faults that persist for years while new bells and whistles are pushed, it's no longer worth the hassle.

Hello everyone!

I appreciate your posts about your friend data on the Fitbit app. Currently as a Google account holder, it is only possible to access other Google account data. Thanks for taking the time to bring this to our attention. Fitbit is aware of the situation. Rest assured that this will be resolved rather sooner than later. I appreciate your patience!

Hello

Many thanks for your reply. It fills me with a little bit of hope that Fitbit seems to be trying to resolve the situation. Without a view of my friends on Fitbit, there seems little point in continuing but if it gets resolved soon my faith will be restored. Thanks in anticipation.

So according to Fitbit support Twitter post you have to wait till your friends move over and that is 2024 yes 2024 well over a year

This had to be a known issue or else your development team should be fired.

Yet Fitbit and Google went ahead and put a menu item built into the app sent out emails praising how great it would be to move.  They decided not to inform their users what would happen when they moved loosing their friend access and the ledger board.

The response well they know and let's see what happens is simply not good enough.
