unranked friend

I have loooked everywherre and don't see an answer to current problem.  there is no "show me" option in version 2.38 app or online preferences.  So, why does my friend show up as unranked?

When they removed the "show me" setting it remained available to those who had selected to be hidden (and then disappeared if they changed the setting). Could it be that they were unranked prior to the change?

So, if they were unranked before the change, are they permanently unranked?
That is not a solution.

No, the other way round. If they were unranked they have the option to be ranked, But once ranked you can't become unranked again.

OK. That doesn't explain why they are unranked now, nor how to get them
ranked.

If they don't have the setting available then I agree - my thoughts were a red herring.
