Are metal plates considered an "implanted medical device"

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

I am considering acquiring an Aria 2. I have multiple metal plates in my body. They are used to repair broken bones. They are permanent

Quick question: are these metal plates considered an "implanted medical device" as described in the manual and therefore I should not be using scale alike the Aria 2?

Thanks!

Hello @Duppie

My point of view is that a medical device would be more like a pacemaker, which is implanted. Just to be sure, I've notified a moderator to stop by here and respond to your question. I'm sure others may have the same concern. I have a family member with a pin and screw in their ankle and another one with a partial metal hip socket.

@Duppie   I agree with @Odyssey13 that implanted medical devices refer to thing like pacemakers, spinal cord stimulators, and implanted insulin pumps.  I suspect that a moderator will agree.

I do want to point out that these metals conduct the electrical current better than bone, water, muscle, and fat.  The more metal you have, the less accurate your scale will be.

@Duppie It's great to see you in our Fitbit Community! Regarding your inquiry, the manual cautions to not use if you have a pacemaker or any other implanted medical device or are pregnant and advises to consult your physician to determine what is ideal for you. Based on this, you may want to avoid or consult your physician if this is suitable with your device.

Don't hesitate to let me know if you have more questions.

Thank you so much for your help my friends @Odyssey13 @LZeeW!
