Aria 2 Scale syncing but not registering weight on app or web dashboard

For the last five days, since September 7, 2023, I have been unable to get the weight from my Fitbit Aria 2 scale two show up on my Fitbit app or on the web dashboard. The scale syncs, and it says that it has synced with the time indicated on my Fitbit app, but the weight does not transfer over to the recent weigh-ins list or to the weight section in the app.  I can see that people have been dealing with this issue since May, and a solution has not yet been reached. I can also see that threads are being closed and marked as solved by moderators, even though the problem has definitely not been solved and is continuing, and even expanding, among people with this scale.

I have called customer support and they did not mention to me that this is an ongoing problem, but instead dragged me through all of the silly steps that haven’t worked for anybody else, including removing and reinstalling the scale, removing the batteries and replacing them, uninstalling the app and reinstalling it, and shutting down my phone and restarting it. Nothing has solved the problem. So now my smart scale is just a dumb scale like everyone else on this forum who has identified this problem.

I'm having the same problem, my last succesful weigh-in was 9/8 at 6:58 AM CST, I've tried changing networks. The scale seems to be communicating with the network but isn't recording stats in my account. The app shows that it's syncing, my thought is that this is a back end issue and I'd appreciate a fix.

I finally found the solution to this problem in another thread. I had to go on my iPhone and switch from my 5 GHz network to my 2.4 GHz network. Then it worked and my weights transferred over for the first time since September 6.  Apparently the Aria 2 scale is only compatible with 2.4 GHz networks.  A developer friend of mine explained to me that the device (scale) can only communicate with your phone if they are both using the same net work, which in this case has to be the 2.4 GHz one. Hopefully for most people having this problem they will have the option of choosing the 2.4 GHz network on their phone, so that it will be able to read data from the scale, which is also on the 2.4 GHz network. My same developer friend also explained to me that a firmware update cannot be made to allow the scale to work on a 5 GHz network, so the only solution is new hardware. In this case that means getting a new scale.  FYI, the Aria Air scale (latest version) is also only compatible with 2.4 GHz networks.  Keep this in mind if for some reason you are unable to select the 2.4 GHz network in your area, or based on your router equipment.

Experiencing exactly what OP is experiencing, but had also set up the WiFi to use the 2.4 GHz network.

Still nothing ever recorded anywhere - just disappearing into the aether.

Even when syncing ONLY over bluetooth (i.e. setting up the Aria 2 without WiFi), no weights get transferred.

Hi LTDust,

I’m sorry to hear you are still having the problem. I am definitely willing to believe that it was just a coincidence that when I started messing around with which Wi-Fi I selected for my iPhone the problem happened to be fixed for me at the same time. Back when I started having the problem on September 7th I had actually tried switching my Wi-Fi back-and-forth from 2.4 GHz to 5 GHz, and it didn’t solve the problem back then. But then it seemed like the problem got fixed as soon as I tried it a second time, yesterday. But since my scale was always syncing, but just not transferring data over, I believe I must have had my phone on the 2.4 GHz network at least most of the time.

Since the people at Fitbit/Google have been unwilling or unable to provide satisfactory updates on this issue, we are all left trying to figure out the problem ourselves. My latest theory is that it has something to do with rolling updates that Fitbit/Google may have been messing around with lately. My latest update to my Fitbit app was to version 3.9 back on September 5, and it just happens that my problem started on September 7. I haven’t had any official updates since then, yet my problem fixed itself yesterday (and is still working today). The firmware version on my Aria 2 scale is 23.27.2.0, but try as I might I can’t find a date for when that update happened.

A well-known and popular language app (featuring a green owl) is famously known for updating their app to different groups of people at different times in order to test out new functionality.  Sometimes they do this in official updates, and sometimes they just do some new programming and push it out to certain people without an official update. This kind of updating activity would explain why some people started having this problem back in May, some in July, some in August, and now others in September. And it would also explain why some people are suddenly having the problem fixed while others are not.

It seems foolish on Fitbit’s part that they wouldn’t transparently let people know what is going on, as a lot of people might just wait out the issue if they knew it was truly being worked on, but instead there are people jumping ship left and right and buying new scales and new fitness trackers in the quest for something more reliable.  Just my opinion.  Good luck to everyone having this issue, and don’t give up, keep bothering Fitbit about this.

Hey HealthyVet86753,

I appreciate your crowdsourcing of a solution in spite of FitBit's silence.

I have another potential solution for those following this thread, since I've been mucking about with different approaches in the meantime.

The last thing I'd tried was simply to invite my email address to use the scale.
My user was already the default user since I'd just factory reset the scale (again) and set it up again, but, I didn't get any warning or error messages (nor did I actually get an email), so I thought nothing of it.

Lo and behold, it's recording through my account again ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I cannot verify if that was what fixed anything - my Aria 2 version is still 23.27.2.0 - but hopefully someone else may see a result?

Cheers,

For my husband and I this started when we were prompted in May to switch to google. I was getting my weight synced until 9/8/23. My husband has never gotten his weight synced (synced as in showing up on the Fitbit app). Now to track my weight I have to add it manually. We both tried the Free Trial for Premium and this worked for me for 6 weeks and never worked for him. Come on Google fix this already!

I just did this and it worked. Thank you!

Just to update my previous post, the situation fixed itself from September 13 through about September 25, just a couple days ago, when it suddenly came back again. However, I read a post on another thread about guest weights not registering and how you can at least temporarily fix the problem by weighing yourself with socks on. Not sure why it works, but somehow the action of the socks blocking the scale from calculating your body fat jiggles something in the scale’s brain that makes it register you as you again, and not as a guest. Therefore it allows you to transfer the weight to the app again. Definitely not a permanent or satisfactory fix, but it has worked for me several times now. It looks like I have to use this trick pretty much every time I weigh myself now 🙁

So now with my brilliant “smart” scale from Fitbit here is my current process for weighing myself and having the weights transferred over to my app:

1. Weigh myself as I usually would without socks, just to see if hopefully this time it will work!

2. When it doesn’t work and will not send the “guest” weight over to the app, weigh myself again with socks on. Weight, but not body fat measurement, will now transfer over to the app as me, not guest.

3. Weigh myself again immediately without socks on in order to get accurate weight and body fat measurement and have it transfer over to the app.

4. Go to the app and delete the weight measurement without the body fat percentage. Or you could just leave it there I guess, but I prefer to delete it because the extra socks might add an additional ounce to my weight 🤣
