Aria 2 not connecting to app

Failing at the first hurdle. My husband has been able to connect his Fitbit app (on Samsung S10) to our new Aria 2 scales, but I have not. The app just prompts me to check if the batteries are in and the scales are on (which they are).

 

I've tried factory reset on the Aria 2, restarting my phone, logging out and back in to my Fitbit account, and reinstalling the Fitbit app and nothing seems to work. My phone is a OnePlus 8 and is able to connect with other Bluetooth devices (Eg Charge 2, earphones)

 

I am very sad.

I do not think that you have to connect to each phone. Once connected by your husband's phone when he weighs himself the data will be sent over your wifi to the Fitbit servers. He should go into his dashboard on the website, click on the gear in the upper right, then the scale. You want the "people view" at that point. Then he can send you an invite for the scale to the email address that you use for your Fitbit account.
