Aria 2 won’t register guest weight

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Yesterday, my scales didn’t recognize me and said guest during the weigh in. In went into the app - recent weigh ins, and changed it to me. Today, the scales didn’t recognize me again. I went into recent weigh ins, but this time, there was no guest weight registered. So, I tried three more times and got nothing.

I then came to the Community to search for help. So far, I’ve tried removing the batteries and stepping on the scales 5 times (6 times, just in case) to recalibrate. Nothing. Tried that again. Nothing.

I’ve removed the scales from my app and readded them (twice); logged out of the app and back in (6 times); done a hard reset of my device (3 times), and then tried adding the scales again (twice). Tried removing the batteries again, and then stepping on 5 times again. I then got on to my Fitbit account via the web browser, hit the settings cog, gone into my Aria 2 to look for recent weigh ins and possibly change it to me there. However, I can’t find any data about weigh ins on the website.

It’s been 2.5 hours now, and I’m ready to throw the scales out the window.

Can anyone advise, please?

Posted my query back in May. Six months later and still NO MEANINGFUL UPDATE from Fitbit.

Honestly, your scale is out of production and with be obsolete soon.
They must figure they already lost you as a future customer and are
probably focusing on Aria Air bugs.
As you have no access to the coding, and having the scale tested by a
service technician would probably cost more than the price of it, you are
left with three options. Reset the scale, reinstall the app, or purchase a
new scale. Or don't, I don't care.

Fitbit this is unacceptable. The same as all the other user, my scale is now only registering every weigh in as 'GUEST'

The data is then not being fed into the dashboard on desktop or app so it can be reassigned.

What are you doing to solve this issue? there has been no solution provided on other threads.

Why hasn't this been fixed yet? Its been months! Can you please provide an update?

I know as much as you do.

This software change, where users can only see their own readings and not other family members, nor erroneous Guest readings, is clearly by design, not accident.

Screenshot attached shows that if a weight is assigned to someone else, rightly or wrongly, it can only be seen by the person assigned, and no-one else.

So please, Fitbit, fix it back to how it was previously

I am having the same issue. Any results? I have removed, added, deleted app, started from scratch and it’s still not working.

Just "Me, Too" and Please Fix. This is happening to me, too. I went away on vacation, gained 13 pounds, and now I am stuck in GUEST limbo. I can't see my guest weigh-ins, so I can't assign my new weight to me. I had been able to do this before after previous vacations. I will try some other tricks mentioned, like cleaning the scale, trying paper or socks, and/or trying to lean on the counter to work my weight up gradually. (It seems like it will be hard to do that steady enough to get a reading, though.)

It has been a LOT longer than 2.5 hours since this has worked.  It may have been MONTHS!  Very disturbing.

Definitely not resolved. I tried the cleaning the scale with alcohol too. My wife just tried again, and it says GUEST, but no guest weight is uploaded, even though it shows a tick mark after the "upload". Also, no fat % shown. Looks like most people are getting the same issue and whatever triggered this, it's not us as end users. It is extremely frustrating as my wife has had no uploaded weights for over two months now. After the full reset, my own weight was still uploading fine. I'm hoping this comes right, but this experience of the long weight (wait) and little response from Google, means I won't be buying another Aria scale. My wife is now starting to demand I get another scale.

Here's the quirky fix that I've been using when Fitbit shows "Guest" instead of my icon: put a sheet of paper on the scale, then weigh yourself, again. You should see an icon—outlined black head shape with a question mark—that will then display each scale users icon one at a time (in my case it's me or my spouse). Each icon will have an X (not me) on the left and checkmark on the right (me). Sometimes my icon will pop up first, so I just step on the checkmark. If my spouse's icon shows up first, I step on the X and wait for my icon to pop up and step on the checkmark. I've done this at least 10 times since early June and it's worked. But I think it's lousy that we're not able to assign Guest weights to users as we did prior to late May. I am not hopeful that this problem will be fixed and may get a new "non-Fitbit smart scale if my quirky fix stops working. As for the Google workaround, I am definitely leery of moving my account to Google.

I was able to get my weight to register as me by leaning on a counter while weighing myself. It was easier than I thought it would be. The first time I was not steady enough to get a reading at all, but the next time I got a reading (weight and fat, because I was within 8 pounds of my previous reading, it knew it was me). Then because that reading was within 8 pounds of my true weight, I just stood up straight as normal to get my real weight and fat numbers, also attributed to me and then I went to the fitbit app and deleted the bogus stepping-stone reading. I recommend this, if this is will work for your problem (I know it won't work for everybody). (If you lost too much weight, hold some books.) I didn't have to try socks or paper.

@SDalrymple I am glad you got it to work for you. Unfortunately my scale was on a tiled floor and giving me under-weight inaccurate readings for some time. I moved to floor thats giving me an accurate reading, and now it thinks i am always a guest. Mind you this is with the original Aria scale and not the Aria 2, but I suspect the outcome is the same. I am deeply disappointed that they have basically broken the scale through the Fitbit app for many of us due to this change. I have no way to get my "identity" back on the scale. If I could see the guest weight I would be able to re-assign it, but I can find no place to see it any longer. When it reads me as a guest it just disappears into the cloud never to be found again. If Fitbit Support has any recommendations it would be greatly appreciated. I may try what you did or try to reset the scale, but I fear it is an exercise in futility at this stage!

Hi, I just bought this Aria 1 used today at a thrift store and hoped to use it. I got it connected to my account, but it keeps showing up with GUEST instead of my name when I weigh myself. I tried changing my weight on my account to the correct weight to see if it wasn't recognizing that, but it still showed up as GUEST after I changed it. I know very little about these scales, so any help is great!!

Thanks!

I KNEW it was some BS about "privacy" or some crap like that!  PRIVACY FOR WHO?!!!  IT'S MY SCALE!!!  FitBit went "woke".

WHAT?!!! Move the account to Google?  What does Google have to do with it?

I tried this….  No luck.   It still registers me as a guest and no weights are showing up in the app. 😐

The Fitbit app states that Google and Fitbit have “come together,” and that you can move your Fitbit account to Google. Someone on this thread did that and said it fixed the problem. Only I’m not sure what problem it fixed. For me the biggest problem is not being able to assign an erroneous “Guest” register to me. I used to be able to do that.

Same issue.  Aria no longer shows body fat and reports that I am a guest.  Nothing shows up in the recent weigh-ins.

Tried all the reset tricks - pull battery, 5 consecutive weigh ins, delete and re-add to my profile, nothing so far has helped.

@ProgrammerGuy - Google bought Fitbit a couple years ago.  It's been all downhill for me ever since that happened.  Google does not seem to care about its Fitbit customers.  It seems they want to sell Google watches and scales, and can't be bothered to fix Fitbit.

Any updates on fixing the guest weights being gone?
