Aria 2 won’t register guest weight

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Yesterday, my scales didn’t recognize me and said guest during the weigh in. In went into the app - recent weigh ins, and changed it to me. Today, the scales didn’t recognize me again. I went into recent weigh ins, but this time, there was no guest weight registered. So, I tried three more times and got nothing.

I then came to the Community to search for help. So far, I’ve tried removing the batteries and stepping on the scales 5 times (6 times, just in case) to recalibrate. Nothing. Tried that again. Nothing.

I’ve removed the scales from my app and readded them (twice); logged out of the app and back in (6 times); done a hard reset of my device (3 times), and then tried adding the scales again (twice). Tried removing the batteries again, and then stepping on 5 times again. I then got on to my Fitbit account via the web browser, hit the settings cog, gone into my Aria 2 to look for recent weigh ins and possibly change it to me there. However, I can’t find any data about weigh ins on the website.

It’s been 2.5 hours now, and I’m ready to throw the scales out the window.

Can anyone advise, please?

Hello everyone,
I also had the same problem but I solved it by setting my wirless network to 2.4 Ghz. and using that network with ARIA 2 and my cell phone.
Addesso it records both my weight and my partner's weight correctly.
I currently use the FITBIT app with the account moved to google.

My 2 cent.

Thanks AA72!  I know I had at least tried to do that, having read it somewhere else, but must’ve done it incorrectly, because this morning I again tried setting my iPhone to the 2.4 GHz network instead of the 5 GHz one and it worked. My weight transferred over to the app for the first time since September 6!!  It looks like the Aria 2 scale will not even connect to my 5 GHz network but the iPhone gives me a choice to select either one in settings.  This certainly seems to have solved the problem for me.

Anyone out there know how hard it would be for a programmer/coder/developer to come up with a firmware update for the scale, or an update for the app that could make this function continue to work on a 5GHz network?

Hey folks, my scale started syncing again!

It came back for me after a few days of manually logging my weight through the app. After 4 days: the scale recognized me during weigh-in, stopped labeling me as GUEST, and started writing data to the recent weigh-ins page again.

I can't say for certain that the problem is done, though. It's great to have my weight added to my dashboard again, but the real test is whether GUEST weigh-ins are correctly saved and recorded to recent weigh-ins.

But yeah. If (like me) you still had this problem after resetting, recalibrating, changing wifi, etc... and you gave-up on tracking your weight entirely for a while, try manually logging your weight into the fitbit app for a week or so and see if that gets the scale working again.

Thanks for the update, I've tried this a number of times as some users have had success but others haven't. If Fitbit/Google actually did some investigation then they could maybe have provided a workaround until they (might) actually fix the problem that's been an issue for the over half a year now. A good test (if you have time) is to weigh something on the scale that's never been weighed and see if it pops into your guest weigh ins, that's the real test if it's working or not otherwise I'll assume that it's not working unless someone from Google/Fitbit can confirm otherwise.

Well that would be ok if guest weights actually were visible

Great idea, I'll try this when I get home

I'm not downgrading my network for one scale.

Just gotta say...

Someone posts about 5 MONTHS of the scale not working and a day later people are posting that the scale is working again. 🤔

Can't make this stuff up.

But guest results still aren't showing, so not actually fixed

The fundamental problem is that when one looks at recent weigh-ins, the only ones that one can see are one's one. The guest weights are presumably being recorded, they just cannot be seen (and therefore elected or reassigned) to the correct person.

If you have guest weights or other users of your scale, you should be able to see them in recent weigh-ins. If you cannot, the issue is not fixed. You may be able to convince the scale to not assign your weigh-ins to GUEST—effectively losing them. But that is really working around the basic problem here.

I can verify that the problem is not fixed for me as I write this.

Mine is also again working for user 2 but still not showing actual Guest weights at all. Clearly there was some change made to the user visibility of weigh ins.

How I got user 2 working was I got onto the scale with my shoes on, and those readings did show up in my app. I allocated one to my wife (not sure if that is necessary). She then got onto the scale in her shoes, and was suddenly seeing about 4 weigh ins show up. She took her shoes off and saw body fat readings again.

The most essential stuff for us is now working again. For how long in the future I don't know...

Not really an answer to the question more that you acknowledge there is an issue.

Some information on expected timelines. What the expected fix will be like. Will all the recent guest weights be visible once this is fixed or just new ones, how far back will the guest weights be kept....

I’m the same, scales show myself as guest and shows it syncing, app tells me scales synced but when I check recent weight in nothing not even guest weigh ins.
Batteries died changed over and now it doesn’t sync or show recent weigh ins as myself or guest

Best Answer

Absolutely correct. The scale IS NOT working if Guest weights are not being recorded. As I’ve said earlier in this thread, there have been two major issues since late May: 1) “Guest” appearing when someone weighs him/herself; and, 2) Guest weights not being recorded. Prior to May, if Guest appeared when I weighed myself, I was able to reassign the weight to me. I can’t do that now. I’ve reported this to Google via X, and to the Fitbit support group.

Same problem for me.

OK, so I'd been asked to do the following (and not sure if others have been asked too) ....

Our team is investigating the issue with the Aria 2 and Guess weight reassignment.

We would like you to help us a bit. If you have the time please try these steps and report back to us, on how it goes:

1. Batteries Removal - Remove the batteries from the Aria 2 scale and wait 30 seconds.  Re-insert the batteries in the scale and try again.

Instructions can be found here.
See "Batteries and power" section, steps 1-5

Try to weigh yourself again. Let us know how it goes.

If your weight is still assigned as Guest, please try these other steps.
2. Please perform a Factory Reset on the scale and go through the setup process again.

https://staticcs.fitbit.com/content/assets/help/manuals/manual_aria_2_en_US.pdf

See "Factory reset" section, steps 1-6

Weight yourself again and let us know how it goes.

We appreciate your collaboration and the information received will help us further.

Obviously it didn't work and when I told them they said ....

Hello Jason. Thank you for your efforts and for getting back to us. I'll forward your information to our team and consult them if they have further steps or need extra info.

We appreciate your cooperation.

Not a surprise to anyone in the thread, but I wanted to close the loop on this because I said I would: I triggered a guest weigh-in, and it didn't show up on the weigh-ins page. So even though my scale started reporting my own weight again and I can use it as normal, the real problem didn't spontaneously go away. I still can't see or reassign weigh-ins that were registered to GUEST.

Best Answer

I can't believe that people are still be asked to do thing like tihs. The problem is clearly not with the scale. The problem is that users cannot see weigh-ins from any other users of their scale (including GUEST).

Before things broke, I could see a list of weigh-in from other family members (with the weight itself hidden, of course). GUEST weigh-ins showed up in this list too (but did include the weights).

Now a user can only see their own weigh-ins. You can reassign your weigh-ins to others users so that functionality seemed to be working. Unfortunately, because GUESTS don't have accounts, those weigh-ins just go into the void.

Everything else here about manually entering weights and such is just a workaround to try to avoid the weigh-ins being assigned to GUEST in the first place.

I have the exact same issue here since a couple of weeks. The trick with sock seemed to make the scale register  the new weight-ins but yeah: no guest whatsover for weeks now. I'll move to a different brand next time.

To anyone curious, that hasn’t yet moved to the new Fitbit app, No it doesn’t fix this problem.

Perhaps now that this version has dropped, development resources will be available to fix this problem.
