Aria 2 won’t register guest weight

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Yesterday, my scales didn’t recognize me and said guest during the weigh in. In went into the app - recent weigh ins, and changed it to me. Today, the scales didn’t recognize me again. I went into recent weigh ins, but this time, there was no guest weight registered. So, I tried three more times and got nothing.

I then came to the Community to search for help. So far, I’ve tried removing the batteries and stepping on the scales 5 times (6 times, just in case) to recalibrate. Nothing. Tried that again. Nothing.

I’ve removed the scales from my app and readded them (twice); logged out of the app and back in (6 times); done a hard reset of my device (3 times), and then tried adding the scales again (twice). Tried removing the batteries again, and then stepping on 5 times again. I then got on to my Fitbit account via the web browser, hit the settings cog, gone into my Aria 2 to look for recent weigh ins and possibly change it to me there. However, I can’t find any data about weigh ins on the website.

It’s been 2.5 hours now, and I’m ready to throw the scales out the window.

Can anyone advise, please?

Have you ever found a solution for this? My scale decided to do this today. I can’t get any weight to register in my account. 🙄

I have not. I finally bought a new non-Fitbit scale that syncs with the Fitbit app. I got tired of only having the scale log my weight if I put paper underneath my feet. Plus it almost never displayed body fat %.

Same here. I spent over 4 hours trying to get it to work. I used an iPad, an older iPhone, a newer iPhone, and even tried a different internet router. I even made a brand new Fitbit account. I could never get the wifi to setup successfully. Something is happening in the app, or on their end. My guess is it has something to do with data permissions, but there's nothing we can do to fix it. I had to finally give up.

I will say, that if you go through the setup process and it fails, the scale becomes a very expensive dumb digital scale. So you can use it that way and manually enter your weight. I don’t mind that… but the family isn’t happy.

With all of this mess, I didn't want to buy another Fitbit scale, so we’ve jumped to the Wi brand. We already had their blood pressure cuff, so the app is already installed. What this means is that I’m now completely out of the Fitbit ecosystem. I’ve used a Fitbit since 2012, but this was the last thing holding me here. I’ll fully migrate to Apple Health now, but I’ll miss it. It was fun, but frustrating while it lasted.

Hope you all have better luck than me, and if anybody finds a fix, please post it.

It makes no sense that it is taking so long to resolve this issue.  The problem started for all of us during May.  Prior to that, we could see all weigh-ins and make corrections if they were mis-assigned to another user or to GUEST and then that capability abruptly disappeared without warning.  Obviously, a software change was made to both the Fitbit web site and to the mobile apps.  Google and its Fitbit subsidiary should have been able to quickly reverse this misguided change.  Even if Google wants to enable privacy of weigh-ins within a household, it should make this a user-selectable option.  It is especially frustrating that the ability to correctly assign weigh-ins mis-assigned to GUEST has been removed.  If further development support for the Aria and Aria 2 scales is ending, just leave us with the software and firmware versions that were working well for us prior to last month's change.

I just discovered today that I can no longer see recent weigh ins on our Aria 2.  I used to see that my husband weighed himself, though not his weight, as well as any “guest” weigh ins, so I could reassign if necessary.

In the past, when my Aria 2 logged my weight as a "Guest" I was able to log into the account and fix it.  In the last month, my account is no longer showing the logs for the device but it is syncing.  What is wrong with my account and how do I fix it?

Totally agree. My guess is that Google and Fitbit are hoping we’ll stop complaining and get used to this unwanted change. Haven’t heard from Juan the moderator lately. His “have patience” advice is getting old. It should not take a month for the engineers to figure out this problem.

I don't think this is an Aria problem.  I believe it is a change to the apps and the dashboard.

Hi
I did as suggested by you but when I get on to the scale bare feet it again recognised me as guest.

I agree the issue is with the app, not the Aria scale itself.

Glad I just found this thread now. I'm pretty furious though as our readings were showing on the scale, but I see all updates to the dashboard stopped after 5 June 2023. I've just spent about 6 hours today resetting, reconnecting, and then of course my phone absolutely would not connect to the scale to do the WiFi setup until I found an old USB WiFi dongle to help get that done. So finally got the scale connected, and it records my weight to the dashboard, but my wife shows on the scale as guest, and no guest weight gets sent to the dashboard at all. Scale is definitely working and is connected with tick mark after the reading and upload, but communication to the dashboard, especially it seems for the 2nd person/guest, is just not working. I'm also suspecting some dashboard change was made.

So yes I'd also like to get this sorted out as if I need to go spend this amount of money again on a scale, I'm very likely not going to go with Fitbit or Google (after scrolling through so many issues by others today). Think how much time is being wasted around the world by each buyer spending 5 or 6 hours like most of us have this last month....

Hi,

I am unable to sync my weight because Aria 2 consistently recognises me as a guest. I just can’t make it to recognise me. Aria 2 is linked to my name and details. It only questions me if I it’s me when I wear socks. Can someone help please?
Thanks

I see that JUANFITBIT removed the link.  I wonder why Google thinks it's okay to let this problem linger, but removes a helpful link to a scale that might actually solve the problem.  If Google won't fix theirs, they should at least let us see access to one that works.  What's up, JuanFitbit??

What is status on fix?  This problem is over a month old.

I have an original Aria scale

  • Reset scale - check
  • connect to wifi - check
  • Link to FitBit - check

step on scale - guest

Does scale synch? Yes

is there proof? The app says it synched

are there weigh ins in the app? No

do I see my initials? No

do I see it on the web? No

repeat process ~ same result

logout of FitBit - log back in ~ still nothing

Contact help waited so long for online chat that I got disconnected

any advice?

Simply because Bollox Google bought almost nearly **ahem**e Fitbit, and are suddenly petrified that you “might” be seeing a Guest’s personal data, so they won’t disclose it for fear of a GDPR complaint.
Fitbit.. used to be superb but now just another Corporate Badge.   I’m switching to Garmin next time I change my watch / tracker

--------

Because Google took over Fitbit. Petrified that you might actually see a real Guest data, and they get sued for GDPR breach

Weight data with just the word guest beside it wouldn’t be covered as personal data under GDPR because it contains no identifying information about the person it relates to. So whatever the reason this has happened, it’s not because of GDPR.

I’m also getting this error, it says it’s all synced but no data populating anywhere in the app at all

This is infuriating and they haven’t responded whatsoever! It’s clearly them messing with things. We have paid £100’s for these devices and google are disabling them all. I want a refund

I completely agree. Any Fitbit device I have bought has malfunctioned around the same time - when it’s just out of warranty. That’s pretty convenient! I’m just waiting on my watch packing in, which is due to happen shortly, then I’m off to Apple. The amount I’ve spent replacing Fitbit items, I’d have been better off investing in Apple products, which is definitely my plan now.

Hi team - mine seems to be working ok again.  I haven't done anything beyond the reset that I posted after hearing back from support a few weeks ago.  The Aria 2 is recording my weight and I haven't had any guest measurements that open up the whole other problem of not seeing the results or being able to change guest measures to my name in the app.

I also bought a new scale last week - a Garmin S2.  I had seen a video that described how you can get a DEXA scan (which should give you a pretty accurate fat measurement) and then CHANGE the body fat % in the Garmin Connect app and it would use that as the baseline going forward.  Sounds great and I had the two scales set up side by side...and then the Garmin stopped recording the body fat %...! Now I am looking at their support page and facing some work to fix their dumb scale...oh cruel fate, why do you mock me so? Also, their daily report does not even give me a number for lean and fat mass...I would have to calculate it based on my body fat %...not hard to do, but c'mon!...that is an advantage to the Fitbit app.

My new plan - return the Garmin.  Say a prayer every time I weigh myself on the Aria that it will give me a consistent number and sync with the Fitbit app.  I'll do a weigh-in once a month at the gym on the EVolt scale once a month (they have one at my gym - a pretty cool system if you check it out, and quite close to the DEXA results) and do a DEXA scan every few years (I hadn't done one in 5 years - it also gives you bone mass density which is good to know).  I'll make an intention to stick with my eating and workout plan and break up with daily weigh-ins... 😉

Everyone is an athlete...good luck and great health, ALL !!!
