Aria Air now syncs to app; some final thoughts

Like others, mine also started syncing to the app on 11/8. It was already boxed up ready for return, so I had to re-open it to check it out. Some of my thoughts on this now that it's working:
1. It's easy to return if you want and get a pre-paid return label. You don't have to "beg" customer service. This was in my original purchase confirmation email: returns<dot>narvar<dot>com<slash>fitbit<slash>returns
2. The app needs to be open and in the foreground to push the weight measurement to the app. Step on the scale very briefly (or touch back top center button) to turn it on. With app in foreground, notice Bluetooth icon on the scale, ready to push a weight measurement. Bring another app to the foreground, Bluetooth icon goes off.
3. Someone mentioned Aria Air not showing as a Bluetooth device: I assume they mean in the phone operating system (OS) (iOS or Android). This fact, combined with fact 3 above, leads me to believe the Fitbit app is communicating with Aria Air over Fitbit-custom Bluetooth communications code, not the standard, built-in OS Bluetooth code. Thus the OS doesn't know anything about Aria Air, all communication is handled exclusively by the Fitbit app. I have no idea why the engineers would have written it that way, but it shouldn't make a difference on how it works. But it probably also explains why it *did not* work for weeks, because of faulty Fitbit-custom Bluetooth code.
4. A couple people asked how this got fixed without any updates to software. I surmise the app update a week prior added/fixed the ability for the app to check for updated Aria Air firmware from the Internet, download it, then push it to the scale. That's the only explanation that makes sense where everybody's started working at the same time late 11/7; a new firmware went on the Internet, got downloaded by all the updated apps, then pushed to all the scales at about the same time.

@KLSeattle the Aria Air uses BT LE, the user is not suppose to pair the scale through the phones BT. The Fitbit app will pair if it needs to be paired.

As for syncing, you are correct. As your user manual States the app needs to be open and logged into the correct users account.

Hi @GymRatVal7 what do you mean by "trying to sync to bluetooth"

A user doesnt sync any fitbit device to bluetooth,  they open the Fitbit app and sync through the phone, Fitbit app, with the firbit server.

You say that you just bought the scale.

Have you setup the scale, using the forbit app?

There is nothing a user can do through the phones bluetooth. If your trying to pair the scale to your phones bluetooth, you are correct in that the scale will reject the pairing. This pairing must be done by the Fitbit app.

How do I set up my Fitbit device?
