There are numerous posts littered through out these forums all about the Fit Bit scale not recognizing the person who steps on the scale. It's constantly telling people that they are a "guest". After much research, reading and playing around with not one, but two different Aria Scales. I've come to the conclusion that this is a problem with the Fit Bit software and something Fit Bit should be fixing on their end. Don't believe me? Here is what I've done and why it's their problem and we should be demanding they fix it. Here are a few questions I have:
Why does it know the difference between my dad and my mom when there is only a matter of maybe 20 lbs between them but I'm at least another 100lbs heavier and yet it thinks I'm a guest even when all of my assigned weigh-ins are around the same weight.
Why does a scale with no other recorded weight, automatically assume guest when there is only one other person using the scale. This seems especially odd when the weights are no more than 5lbs or less in difference between them.
Here is the story:
When we set up and started using our Fitbit Series one scale, everything worked fine. Then I added my name in and for the first couple of weigh-in's I was a guest. Eventually it picked things up and I was fine for a while. Then it started listing me as guest again. So we followed all the suggestions about resets, and taking the batteries out and putting them back in. We also made sure there was at least 5 weigh-in's assigned to a person. Then it started forgetting the other people registered to the scale as well and it again, took multiple weigh-in's assigned to a guest to get it to back to recognizing a person. (or pick any of the "working" suggestions mentioned in these forums) Eventually we had it working for two of the three people in our house and I just gave up and went back to using a normal scale and manually recording my weight. After all, what's the point of using the FitBit scale if it's not going to actually save me some work. Then this last holiday season I got my own scale. Finally I would be able to weigh myself and nobody else would be registered so it should always know it's me, right? Nope.
The new scale uses symbols to indicate a person and half the time I can't remember my symbol. I wish they would bring back the initials. It was easier to know if that's you or not. So I weighed myself 5 times in a row on the next 5 days and the scale, after assigned weight from guest to me. (nope didn't even recognize me the first time around) For a while it was fine. But I don't weigh myself everyday. I just find it too depressing to not see that number change. I've heard multiple opinions on weight loss and if you should weigh yourself every day or not. I choose not to. This, is why I think the scale forgets. Whoever programmed the thing just made an assumption that people would weigh themselves several times a week but if you only weigh yourself every now and then, I think the scale doesn't understand the change in weight. So why is it that FitBit keeps asking us to fix a problem that appears to be clearly on their end. Especially if we keep listing these Aria Scale Says I'm Guest posts as fixed when clearly, it's not. Even trying to "tap" the scale to change the symbol is a pain because now I have to try and balance on one foot, just so I can tell the scale to do something it should be doing automatically by now. Yes, I have something like well over 20 to 30 weight readings assigned to me for that specific scale. None of them are any more than 10lbs apart and most of them are less. The past couple of weeks, it's been hovering between 1 and 2 lbs difference. (I gotta get out and walk more) it still will assign me guest.
So here is where someone helpful tries to offer me some options on how to "fix" the issue. I can promise you that a likely scenario is that I've already tried it and it only works for a short period of time before it's back to being an issue again. I suspect, that if you weigh yourself almost every day, you may not have an issue. It's those of us that don't weigh often, I think, that may be having the most problems.

@Drew-The-Geek It's great to see you in our Fitbit Community! I'm sorry to hear that your Aria scale is recognizes your user as "Guest". It's not normal that it stops recognizing you since you don't weigh yourself everyday.
I totally understand how frustrating this is for you and thank you for reporting your feedback. Since the issue persists even though you have tried all the recommended troubleshooting steps, I'll forward your case to our Support team so they can investigate further and provide a solution. You will receive an email from them soon.
Let me know if you have any doubts!

This is a cop out!! I have contacted support and they only recommend the take the batteries out/ weigh yourself 5 times and assign manually fix that is all over this website. Then they tell you to buy a new one! THIS IS CRAP.

Just a note. It has been over a year and I've never received any communication from Fitbit. I got the scale last Christmas and it still has the same issue. Nothing has changed in the way the scale is able to recognize people. Perhaps if fitbit put a couple of those scales in an office and actually used their own products for a while they might be able to see the same issues we are and finally get them fixed. At this point I'm telling people to find any other product that isn't fitbit. My current plan is to never by another fitbit product and to tell others the same.

I weigh myself every day. No other person is in my house. The Aria scale recognized me every day and now only sees me as a "guest" despite the fact that there has NEVER been another person weighing himself/herself with the scale. The last time it weighed me as me was 11/27/20. I have removed the batteries and put them back in, and that has not helped. I really think this is a software problem with Fitbit, and I'm very close to buying a different scale from a different company.
