Aria Step Off, Sensing, Error

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Have had this scale for two years and loved it. All of a sudden today I change the batteries and start getting a step off, sensing, error message over and over again. Contacted customer service and all they can tell me to do is throw it away. For a scale that costs so much money it's unacceptable that it stops working so soon. Have been a loyal customer for over three years and now I'll have to look elsewhere for a quality product

It is very sad that Fitbit is ignoring us all in these complaints!

That is so not cool. I read all your remarks. You were just being truthful and did not do it in an rude or inflammatory manner at all.

I am pretty sure I know which scale you got. I had the same experience of being contacting to make sure setup went ok. Seems to be a super company. And I love the scale!

Maybe it is time to start writing some reviews in other places and reporting our issues.

Good luck to you.

Yes - mine has now stopped working completely. Brand new batteries, a scale that has never been dropped, barely moved, always in a stable, dry, clean environment. Completely broken. Only used once a month. I would NEVER buy from FITBIT again.

Crazy. And keeps happening with more people and still no appropriate help from FITBIT. Ridiculous.
Check out the other posts for recommended scale.

Me too.  They refused to offer ANYTHING to help a loyal customer when my scale failed after just over a year...not even a discount on a new one.  This is just terrible...it's not like I am the only one.  They even deleted one of my posts describing my experience with their customer 'service', saying it was 'inflammatory'...but I did not use any profanity, did not level any accusations, only described the truth about exactly what happened.

DONE with Fitbit.  Do a bit of research.  There are some similar products out there with WAY better ratings, for significantly less money, supported by companies with MUCH better customer service (but let's be honest, Fitbit has set the bar about as low as it can go)...

Fitbit had a golden opportunity to turn customers like me into LOYAL customers for life, just by standing behind a faulty product, recognizing they had a problem, and making sure people like me (whose expensive product failed outright, way prematurely) were happy.

So few companies ever get a chance like this to earn loyalty for life at such a low cost (a discount on a new one would have been fine)...but they squandered the opportunity, guided by shortsighted greed, and instead turned me into the opposite...hence me writing this when I have already purchased a competing product and written off their expensive paperweight.

Let's see if they let this post stand.  No accusations, no mention of competitor names, not even a detailed description of their lack of service...

Just take your business elsewhere.  Nothing further to say.

I can’t help but notice that the multiple posts (especially the ones with large views) have been marked as solution accepted and closed. That and the moderator stating that we should contact customer service. My question from many months ago still goes unanswered and ignored even though the forum is obviously monitored. I will ask it again and expect an official response:

What has caused this large-scale failure of your unit which has been reported steadily since the last firmware upgrade? Is it fitbit’s official position that user error in replacing batteries is the cause of this error? Or is it a design and production flaw. The timing seems very suspicious in the number of failures are all occurring after the same event must indicate something?

Please Respond, many of us would like to know the official response. Like I said, this is maybe the 5th time I have posed this question and it has gone ignored.

I have the same issue with the same bad service. Fitbit will not stand by their Aria product. They will overcharge you for their sloppily made product tho. I realized that I had nothing to loose and intend on trying to fix it myself. Here is a link on how to fix the Aria yourself.

Good Luck & it's a shame Fitbit made such an unreliable & expensive product they will not stand behind.

Did you try taking the batteries out for at least two minutes. For me, that corrected the error for a couple of months. Now it is back again. The only way I can use them is to take one battery out after weighing myself and leave it out. Then put it back in next time I want to use the scales. And take it out again afterwards. Not satisfactory but it gives me some time to get round to replacing the scales, from another manufacturer of course! Now Fitbit HR Charge is broken as well, plastic around the recharging point broken away. I'm done with Fitbit after being a customer for many, many years.

I went through several different ways to try and get it to work including batteries in and out, changing new batteries for more new batteries - nothing worked.
I heartily recommend the weight gurus scale from Greater Goods. Less expensive and works great.
The plastic part you are talking about
On my Charge is lifting up, too. When it breaks, I will probably leave FITBIT. I’ve been a customer for three years and really like my Charge. However, their manner of dealing with the scale has been very disheartening.

Removing & replacing batteries in our FitBit Aria worked for awhile ... until it didn’t.  As a result, our family ultimately moved on from FitBit watches and accessories.

Thats been a yr and I’m still receiving these message post replies from angry former FitBit customers.  Wondering how I can be removed?

This issue is most certainly firmware related.

I've had my Aria since 2015 and for the last year it was disconnected from WiFi and worked just fine. This morning, I decided to reconnect it to wifi as I recently recovered from illness - over the last year I gained a ton of weight from this, and today I'm ready to start my weight loss journey.

I weighed myself when I woke up - it worked fine and gave me a weight I expected to see.

Connected it to Wifi.

It rebooted and had an update to v.39.

Now I get the Sensing, Step Off, Thinking, ERR.

Talked with chat - they will not be providing a new update to fix whatever they have done. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if this was done on purpose to reduce the life of it, forcing people to upgrade to Aria2.
