I recently had to change out my wifi router. It is the exact same type as my previous router that was connected to the scale but for some reason this scale will not connect to the new router. Oh it was a nightmare connecting the scale to the first wifi as well, but I am over it. !!!!! I have been trying for three days. Shame on you fitbit for putting out such subpar material. some one needs to tell me how to fit this setup or I want my money back. My scale is saying that it has detected the networks but my network does not appear to connect to it. I should have bought a Withings scale. uggh.

I agree. Ive had 2 watches and a scale. My first watch charge broke off and so they gave me a discount toward another purchase. I got a second watch and the band broke so quickly. When i called they were not helpful. I wont by another

Have tried each and every step you have suggested with no success. Have gotten as far as connecting my computer to the scale wifi as directed. Waited to ensure connection, then hit the yes I'm connected button. It appears to connect, but more or less locks up and fails to go to the next prompt for connecting to the new wifi/router. Beyond frustrated with this less than satisfactory product. Would appreciate any further advice. Thanks in advance.

@JTRENT1962 Welcome aboard to our Fitbit Community! Let me assist you with the setup issues that you are experiencing with your Aria scale. I would just like to know if you are getting any error message during the setup process. Also, let me know what is the make and model of your router.
As an aside note, make sure that your router runs the protocol 802.11b, bandwidth is 2.4GHz and your WiFi password is alphanumerical.
Looking forward to your response!

What does the format of my WiFi password have to do with the ability to connecty Aria?

The web app they wrote to connect to WiFi from aria is pretty non-future-proof. The connection runs over http, transmits your network password and ssid in plaintext through the air, and validates there are no special characters before saving settings.
I have the same problem with my scale. I would love to disconnect it from my account before selling it but can’t connect to reset the password

Password thing was the Aria not recognizing special characters (no special characters - ".", "!", etc.)
Only alphanumeric character.
As far as disconnecting just go to settings in the fitbit app and remove your Aria. The history will stay, your account just won't look for input from it in the future, then you can be confident passing it on (no internal memory, if you want to be really nice to the receiver pull a battery for a minute and the "set up" display will prompt the new user when they step on it the first time).

Actually, the scale does have internal memory which is not erased by removing the batteries. Furthermore, it cannot be overwritten without successfully connecting to a different network. Since my network SSID is displayed every time the scale turns on (before tapping to attempt a setup), it obviously persists SSID and WPA2 password in some type of onboard flash memory.
There is no factory reset option which basically means My network and password are there to stay.

@RrrrRrrrrr Welcome to our Fitbit Community! As you mentioned, the person who buys your Aria scale needs to set up the scale on their own WiFi in order to erase yours. Have you tried setting up the scale to another WiFi?
Looking forward to your response!

Using an old device did not work... and the perpetual search keeps killing batteries... what a giant waste of money this scale has turned out to be. I can’t believe these people can’t fix this.

I found a solution that works and an explanation to match. I didn't read all 350+ replies, so I apologize if this is a repeat; but, given that people are still commenting 4 years later, I am guessing this solution is not widely known.
The problem, it seems, is that Aria will not connect to a 5 Ghz radio, but only to a 2.4 Ghz radio in B mode. Since my new router requires that I use the same SSID and the same password for both radios (an advanced security measure of some sort), my Aria would time-out before it found a connection. When I changed the SSID on 5 Ghz radio so that it was different from the 2.4 Ghz radio and tried again, my Aria connected right away. So that seems like it is the heart of the problem; but, not the best solution.
The change that I ultimately made was to set my router back to the secure setup (both radios with the same SSID and password) and to enable my guest login with a different SSID. Since my guest login is only active on the 2.4 Ghz radio, my Aria was no longer confused and it connected easily and is working fine.

After changing router the scales still won’t accept my new router. When I get to the connect to network my IOS device just says it can’t connect to the aria network.

That sounds like a solution if only I understood what it meant or how to implement it.
