Aria doesn't turn off

My Aria runs almost all the time and won't turn off.   It switches between different messages such as "please step on" to "sensing" and others when no one is in the room.  It does occasionally stop but not for long.  It eventually wears its batteries down doing this within a few days.

I've tried cleaning off the deck and obviously changing batteries but I'm at the point of just throwing the thing out.

Is there anything else I can do?

It’s the feet getting stuck. If you turn the device over and pull all the feet out it stops it. Not ideal but it works.

That is interesting that you say that they extended the warranty because so many people were having the same problem. Too bad they are no longer offering to do that any more. They are no longer standing behind their product since so many people are having problems with the Aria scale.

How do you pull the feet out? I tried couldn't do it?

Thanks. I dont think fitbit will last much longer as a company with their
style of responsibiity (or not!) for flawed products

Have had the same Aria issue increasing over the last year and was usually able to solve it by removing and replacing the batteries.   This week it refused to go out of STEP OFF and THINKING message mode.

As you suggested I turned it over and wiggled the four rubbery sensor feet.   This seems to have worked tonight.   I guess they get dusty/dirt after a while.  I’ll let you know if it keeps working.

sure, but then i use it again and within a day it's doing the same.

seems that this is a special-needs scale. It burns through batteries and needs treating like fine linen, apparently. For a scale you aren't supposed to move, that seems a lot of moving.

is it worth the coddle? Really?

mine started at the same time.

remember when apple got busted manipulating batteries in older models when  a new model became available?

i wonder if fitbit is doing the same thing. The frequency and usefulness of the fitbit team's responses make me wonder if they are playing a different game than we are.

I think it's pretty clear you don't really want to help us out.  If you did, you would send us all new scales.  Because we are ALL having the same issue and you are just robo-texting in platitudes and information that DOES.  NOT.  CHANGE.  THE.  SITUATION. OF YOUR SCALE'S DEFICIENT PARTS.

Tried this several times and it does not work.  I guess I need to keep repeating that as often as you repeat your false concern for my frustration.

Well, after wiggling the four feet 3 weeks ago, the Aria has behaved reasonably well.  I suspect there is something in the each of the four sensors that gets gummed up after a few years and sets the software crazy.

The fact that it is right below a heat vent probably didn’t help in the last few Ottawa winters.

I don’t believe there has been a software/update/download since I got it.  On rebooting it says V39.

Do not pull on the feet! The person who’s recommended this hack in an earlier post was literally PULLING YOUR LEG!! 😃

It's a huge pain and there clearly is a fault with the product but for me, it works every time. After I've stood on the scales I pick them up and then pull gently on all the feet. It's as if they get stuck in the on position.

p.s Thanks for calling me a ding dong, god bless the internet. You try to help someone out...

Glad it’s working for you too.  Hopefully we can get a few more months or years service from the Aria by wiggling / pulling the feet when it misbehaves.

Unfortunate some called us ding dongs, it certainly was not a positive or helpfully comment.

Currently having same issue, mine is several years old. Used to go a year on a set of batteries. Replaced about 30 days ago  Got email today saying replace again. The device runs continuously. Definitely an issue with product.

Hi, Here’s another solution to the issue. It piggybacks on the other solutions provided here - keeping the aria on a soft surface and the other was pulling the feet gently.

I use Deoxit spray to clean contacts on my electronics and thought that since this could be an issue with dirty contacts I could use Deoxit to fix the issue. It worked and my Aria is now turning itself off. You could try the same fix with contact cleaners available in most hardware stores.

The other part to clean with alcohol is the feet - they get sticky with dust/pet hair and end up not recognising that someone has got off the scales.  The weight of the scales themselves are enough to fool the scales into thinking someone is still on them...

This happened to my Aria, I was about ready to throw it away. Much fiddling about, changing the batteries, cleaning the battery connections did not help. What fixed it is my attitude once something is broken or not working properly - I have nothing to lose. I turned it over face down on the bed (soft surface) and hit it 7 -8 times on the back around the whole scale with my fist. Now I didn't go wailing on it like I wanted to kill it, (although I felt like it) I gave it a few good bumps on the back. When I turned it back over, its been working ever since. Worth a try if your going to throw it away

I even tried hard reboot (removing the batteries) but nothing worked until I tried this. It took less than a minute to shut down
