Aria giving different weights

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.
Hi, ive also messaged customer support about this but wondered if anyone having or had same problem? My aria keeps giving me different weights in lbs and bf when I get on and off. The weight can vary up to 3 or 4lbs going up then back down. Its driving me crazy as I'm cutting and obviously need to know I'm getting a reliable reading incase I need to change my food. I don't move them, just literally get off and back on again

I lost 15 pounds in a matter of 30 seconds today! I got a badge for it too! I'm amazing...not.

Also, I wanted to see how much my cat weighed so did the old trick of weigh yourself, then hold cat, weigh again and subtract. Apparently my cat weighs negative ten pounds 3 ounces. Yes -10.3!  She is a small kitten. but she is not my imaginary friend!

I then redid the whole scale setup thing and weighed myself several times. Still all over the place, I weighed myself so many times today and it makes no sense at all.

I sent my back. It's make no sense I was told it has to be only placed on tilled floor. No hardwood no fake stuff only tilled and your feet must be completely dry. I was going crazy it keep telling I was over 5-9 pounds. Good luck

Greetings! We just got an “Aria 2” and I noticed that it gives weighs way different than Aria 1 when taken at the same time (let’s say at 7:20 am Aria 1 gives 124.2 with 20.4% fat and at 7:20 am Aria 2 gives 123.4 with 26.5% fat). Basically, there is always usually an average of 1 pound difference and 6 points % difference in body fat).

Thank you!

I was hoping the Aria 2 was more reliable, was actually thinking about going in to upgrade just to try resolve this issue. Guess I'll get another 'old fashioned' scale instead, and use it to check Aria. (Yes, I'm addicted to the app and the nice graphs - such a pity the data is rubbish!)

@FreoGuy Thank you for joining us in this thread and our Fitbit forums! I'm sorry to hear that your Aria scale is also experiencing this issue. I would like to turn that bad experience into a good experience. If you haven't done so, please restart and re-calibrate your scale by taking out the batteries for 15 seconds and put them back in. After doing this, weigh yourself 5 times in a row and see if your Aria provides more accurate readings.

Let me know how it goes! Smiley Happy

@cmanninen It's great to see you in our Fitbit forums! If your Aria weighs you as "Guest" please restart it if you haven't done so. In order to restart it, please follow the process as described in my previous post. This will refresh your scale and get it calibrated.

As a side note, I'd like you to take a look at this help article, which explains why your Aria may recognize you as "Guest"

@JiGA76 I'm sorry about the experience you had with your Aria scale and I'm sorry that you decided to return it. I appreciate your feedback since this helps us to keep improving.

Does the Aria 2 perform better with respect to giving varying weights?

Did the technology get upgraded in anyway in the Aria 2?

I have to weigh myself several times to get the same weight twice.

What can be done to make it accurate the first time? Or is varying weights a feature?

@DannyNYC Thank you for joining us in this thread! Regarding your inquiry about the Aria 2, it has been redesigned to provide more accurate measurements than Aria. For this reason, you may notice different readings between the scales.

If you are getting inaccurate readings from your Aria 1, please follow these steps if you haven't done so:

- Restart your scale by taking out the batteries for 15 seconds and put them back in

- After the restart, weigh yourself 5 times in a row in order to re-calibrate the scale

- Finally, make sure that your scale is on a hard surface and you are standing on it barefoot.

Let me know if the issue persists and I'll be happy to follow up! 😀

I’m the exact same. What a waste this product is! I get completely different weights every time I step on it. I now use my cheap one because I get a consistent accurate response every single time.

I would never ever recommend this product.

Yep take batteries out, do 5 handstands, 5 star jumps .. say 5 Hail Marys then hope after the 5th jump you get an “average” reading... good one Fitbit!!!

I have done this step more than once and my scale giving me all kinds of weigh ins. From 190 to 227 in a matter of days and today I am 212. I have done all trouble shooting I can. Really disappointed

Me too. Very frustrating when trying to lose weight. My scale didn’t always have this problem, started a year ago. Really like the idea of everything syncing to one app so I bought this scale. Now I use my husbands scale and manually input my numbers. Aria is usually 2 lbs heavier, but sometimes I can move it around, step on and off several times, wait for it to sync, try again, and then I get the accurate weight. Takes a long time for the convenience of everything syncing to one app!

I have the same problem with another digital scale, which is why I finally bought a standing old fashioned gravity scale. It gives weights in 0.25 increments, and is much less variable in reported weights. However, there is still some "play" in the balance bar, and so depending on how you place your feet, how you stand, there can be as much as a half pound variation. I have learned how to step on the scale to minimize this. But I still use the digital scale daily, and the manual scale as backup and reinforcement.Another thing I have begun doing is the old fashioned "count calories in and out, plus deficits." When I do that, I can compare scale weight losses to "fat weight" losses (based on calorie deficits) and compute water weight. While the whole system depends on accurate measurement of food in, exercise out -- fitbit readings WITHOUT activity calories since I track exercise -- this approach has been an amazing support to my attitude. A sudden 2-lb gain or 2-lb loss comes from water fluctuation, and my graph shows it. So my focus is placed on FAT LOSS, and creating real and consistent calorie deficits (by eating less or exercising more or both). So long as my "fat loss" numbers decrease, scale spikes and drops are no longer overly celebrated or depressing. I have been using this for 6 weeks now (I created an Excel spreadsheet to track numbers and graph results) and it has made all the difference in the world in my weight loss journey. I've fluctuated between 226 and 277 three times since 2011. I am now on a "Journey to One-derland by Christmas" and insights gained by these calcs will help me succeed. Under this system, scale variations are less important because they are so affected by water fluctuations, which are meaningless in the long-run.

Woke up and was 199.2. Yay, under 200! I checked three times to verify! Then I had to go #2. 201.6! Apparently, pooping made me gain 2.4 lbs. And then clothes on: 201.6, clothes OFF 201.6, just peed, 201.6, ate some sorbet, 201.6. Holding a cat, 214, which means it does register different weights, but for some reason within a pound or two it gives the same reading. AM I UNDER 200 or not?

This is absolutely ridiculous!  This thread has been opened for 5yrs!  And same information given by fitbit... and nothing has changed.  A scale shouldn't change sooo much in a matter of seconds.  Trash!
