Aria is randomly turning on

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Starting yesterday Aria will randomly flash to step on the scale, searches, tries to sync. This goes on for a minute, it turns off, and then a few minutes later it happens again. Yesterday I stepped on thinking that would make it stop. Moments later it happened again. This morning it happened about half an hour after I weighed myself. A few minutes ago it happened again. It has not been moved or bumped into at all. The batteries don't need to be changed. It's really freaking me out.

My scales also sometimes turn on when I am not stood on them. I have realised that this is when they are syncing because they don't always sync straight after I have weighed myself (assume this is due to poor bluetooth reception). Sometimes it can take over 24 hours for the weight to update to my app which I found really frustrating when I first purchased the scales a few weeks ago, but at least it gets there eventually.

Mine was doing this. Then it stopped syncing. I re-ran the program and the issues are gone for now.

I was having the same problem with my Aria turning on by itself and running down the batteries. I tried many of the tips here to no avail. I eventually found the problem and discovered that one of the feet was sticking due to accumulated dust over the years. I worked each foot up and down until they felt smooth and it has been over 2 weeks now and the Aria is working like new.

I assumed that every time you step on the scale the feet activate the scale and if one of the feet sticks near a contact point it doesn't take much to start up the scale even if nobody is on the scale burning up batteries.

I hope this helps .

3 weeks after new batteries, they are now dead

Can someone from Fitbit confirm that there is a sensor in one or more of Aria's feet?  This could be the problem.  If so, what's the best way to repair it (them)?

Best Answer

Actually, I don't think the feet have sensors per-say but I think when you step on the scale, the top of the scale presses down on the feet activating sensors in the housing of the scale. If one of the feet sticks in a position near or contacting the sensor (or switch) the scale will intermittently think someone is standing on the scale thus burning up your batteries very fast. By turning the scale over and manually pressing and releasing each foot until they move freely and smoothly I was able to totally correct the problem of activating on its own. ( I think dust accumulated causing the problem)

This is just my opinion as to what caused my issues with the scale. I hope it helps those with a similar issue.

The feet have springs made out of a simple plastic spiral where a sensor is housed, which breaks and puts a load on the sensor which the scale thinks is a person standing on it.

Fitbit: is there a spare part available for this?

Thank you Markymike17. That's good advice. After reading your comments, I noticed the one foot (top left) on my Aria scale was not moving nearly as freely as the other three. So I worked it loose, and so far - so good.  Thanks again.

My scale keros turning on, staying on, shutting off then back on again.

This has been happening for a long time already.

Batteries draining g quickly. Decided to finally ask about it.

I’m not  the only one!

Seems like this is a big issue, and ppl have tried this.. changing the batteries is the go to generic response that is not a proper solution.

I thought I was an isolated case,  maybe to do with wifi... sadly not!

Bought Nokia scale. So much better. Aria went in the wheelie bin.

Someone posted to clean the legs on the bottom of scale.. it worked!

I don’t  understand how Fitbit, or rather how someone else understands their product better than they do!

My scale does the same as everyone else. Comes on all the time, eventually batteries go dead, then start over with fresh batteries. One thing i have noticed is when the surface gets dusty dirty it seems to happen more often. Not sure if that’s a fact or not.

Your not even paying attention to the people speaking to you.  They cleaned the legs, not the battery contacts.   You have proven ignorant, ineffective and useless in solving this problem.  And YES, ive reset the scale that has clearly worked for no one even though you,ve repeatedly suggested it on an ongoing board as though none of us read through it, but just skipped to the bottom.  Perhaps a new career choice is in order.

I have cleaned the leg posts and made sure the floor is also clean. This dud worked well for a couple weeks. Then it started again, trued same process lasted a short while.
Now I put a empty paper roll under my scale so it does nit make contact on one spot and take it out to step in scale.
Not a proper fix but my batteries have never lasted this long! 🙄

My scalehas also been doing this for a few months. I'm surprised my batteries aren't dead yet because it seems to go on all day every day and never did it before.  Tried resetting, taking batteries out, etc.  Still doing it.

Wiped the bottom feet, that helped. Then it started doing it again. Now I put something under the scale to off set it and take it out when I want to use it.

Markymike, you are a legend!  This totally worked!  My scales had one foot that didn't move as much as the others so my husband took the back off and freed it up somehow.  Now the scales don't activate every time I walk into the bathroom!

Having the same problem. The scale randomly turns on and loops in an infinite loop "sensing-step off" for hours. Battery dies in about a week.

I just talked with tech support. They tried to reset the scale and then *recommended buying a new one*. Mine is 3 years old. No discount, no help. Just toss it and buy a new one.

I would expect such an expensive scale to last a bit longer....
