Aria provides different weight readings each time

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

For the past year or so, I have found myself doing at least two weight measurements each time I use the Aria and the variance is roughly 4 pounds every single time. Here are the daily steps I take at weigh in:

1) Step on Aria and it immediately attempts to find the exact weight. When it locks in to the weigh it gives body fat then send the data to the cloud (e.g. 228lbs)

2) A few seconds later, the Aria tells me to step back on and it then beings "sensing"

3) After sensing is over it tells me to step off and it begins "thinking"

4) After thinking is done, a new weight measurement appears (e.g. 224lbs)

Why do I always have to measure myself twice and why are the readings always off by a various of roughly 4 lbs? Is this a bug or by design?

Welcome aboard @garyzero! I believe that your scale might need to be recalibrated, so go ahead and step on it for 5 consecutive times. On the 6th try, you should be able to get correct weight and BF% readings. Also, try resetting the scale by removing its batteries for at least 10 seconds, then reinsert them.

Also, keep in mind that your weight might change during the day, depending on the last time you ate or consumed liquids or if you just worked out. For more information on this, you can log to this link.

Give this a try and let me know if you notice any changes. Thanks!

I did as suggested and can now get body fat readings again.

Unfortunately there still appeRs to be a problem with the tare settings
because I still have to get on the a am twice each time to get a proper
reading. The two readings are always 4lbs different from each other.

I had heard that this is a problem in v35 of the Aria firmware and that
there should be a v37 available. Is this true and if so where can I get
this new build?

Thx

That would be correct @garyzero. Your Aria scale will automatically update its firmware to V37 and this should occur while you continue using it. If every time you get a difference of 4 lbs, my recommendation is for you to contact customer support so they can further investigate and help you out.

I'm having this exact same issue! It's frustrating and I was almost in tears over it this morning.  I dont' think fit bit exactly understands the hard work and how upsetting it can be to see a 5 lbs varience in our weights back to back! It can be a deal breaker especially for something THIS expensive! I just got my scale to go with my fit bit this christmas.

I'll be for sure contacting customer support, but seeing as I hav no idea where my receipt is, it is starting to feel like I'm out of the cash I invested in this.

Mine is off by 10-20lbs between readings. I've contacted customer support through here, email and twitter. I need help with my scale. I've done the 5 time thing, taking the batteries out, ect. It's still NOT working properly!

I'm having the same problems. I've had the Aria for a week and each day I weigh 2-3 times and the weight varies from 2-3 to 9-12 pounds. I am super disappointed because I purchased a Fit Bit over a year ago, and it didn't work either, and I waited until it was too late to return/exchange it.  I thought this product would be better, but it's just a defective as the other.  The packaging is quite lovely, but the product just doesn't work. I'm returning mine--I don't have time to waste on a product that was this expensive, and I can see so many online complaints that are for the same and other issues.

Sadness.

Was this problem ever fixed? I got my scale at the end of 2014... and almost 4 years later, I still need to step on the scale twice to get a correct reading. Any resolutions?

I'm also interested in this, as I've experienced the 4lb difference consistently from owning the Aria.  I literally weigh myself twice every time I use it and delete the 1st reading from the app.  4lb difference pretty much every time, the first reading always being the heavier one.

Just a quick follow up, in case anyone stumbles across this thread experiencing the same issues, I've now had a successful resolution of the problem via correspondence with Fitbit support.

The issue is most likely due to the scale being stored upright against a wall when not in use, which results in it recalibrating itself when next used.  After experiencing the "consistent 4lb difference" repeatedly for the last few years, I left the scale stored flat for a week and experienced consistent consecutive measurements over several days.  I would suggest that as your first test to resolve the issue.

Ah - I store it upright. Will try storing it flat. Too bad I already
invested in a withings scale.

@Riffman117 Thank you so much for your feedback and sharing the solution that helped you to get your Aria scale re-calibrated.

@juditho Thank you for joining us in this thread! I would like to follow up and would like to know if the workaround that shared @Riffman117 was helpful and if your scale could be re-calibrated.

Thanks I’ll give this a try. I do store mine leaning against a wall.

Mine stays flat all day and it still does the same. Body weight ranged from 73.2kgs to 73.2kgs over 4 readings, each time different. Is this still not fixed?
