Aria provides inaccurate readings

Hi. Can anyone help as regards the body fat measurement etc?

My weight is pretty much down to my goal weight, but, it is reading just into obese at 25.3%.

I`m finding this very difficult to accept because of how I look now and of course the aforementioned weight loss etc. I read somewhere that these scales send a small electrical current into one leg and down the other. Is this right? And if it is I wonder if my knee implants are causing a problem.

Can any one help with this?

Jack.

Accepted Solutions

@Vanner46   First, I want to say that joint replacements can give false percent body fat readings.  The metal part of the of the joint conducts the electrical current better than bone, muscle, fat, etc.  So the reading will be wrong, but consistently wrong.  Second, using percent body fat to describe someone as obese is age related.  By one chart, a 20-39 year old male with a %BF over 25% is obese, but a 40-59 year old male with that same %BF is simply overfat.

Thanks for your help. What you say does make sense. The readings have been consistently high. But I will wait and see if the other person has more information on this before getting in touch with the manufacturers. If that`s possible of course.

Jack.

Thanks. That`s kind of you.

I could find a couple of items that you may be helpful,

This link contains a post on how body fat is calculated:

This second link is to the Aria manual itself.
