My aria is possessed! Messages repeatedly run across the screen, even when tucked under the cabinet where its kept when not I use. Because of this, I took the batteries out because they drain much faster since this started. But as far as regular scale use, there isn't any. When I step on it, it just says thinking, then error. It has new batteries and is on a flat surface. Not sure what else to do to get this $100+ scale to work.

Firmware update to version 39 is the culprit, and no fix in near sight.
You can 'factory reset' Aria to it's original firmware by gently holding the reset button in with a paperclip WHILE inserting that last battery. The reset button is through the tiny hole on the bottom. This will get you back to it's original firmware (v29 for mine).
Then go through the Aria WiFi setup. Aria will eventually update to firmware version 39 (a little each night). Perhaps it will not do the vicious cycle thing again, although mine did.
There isn't much hope until Fitbit [Google] puts out a version 40 firmware for Aria.

@KayLam12 you mention while tucked away.
The Aria needs to be placed down on the floor, and left there. Anytime it gets picked up, it needs to do a calibration which requires the user to step off. See your user manual, found through the below help link.

Thanks. I was able to reset it to v37, but now I can't complete the setup process. There are also messages that just flash..."set up active"...then goes on from there. If you step on it, it tells you its thinking then just says "err".
Thanks for your reply. What I meant by tucked away is, I step off it and push it under a cabinet, on the flat wooden floor. So the scale is always on a flat surface.

If the scale is disturbed, it might decide that it needs to be ew calibrated and why your getting the step off message.
Why would the scale need to be re-setup?

My scales were doing the exact same thing and I could not get it out of the "Step Off" loop. I thought that I had checked all Aria Forum posts. Numerous emails with fitbit support and not once did they mention that a firmware update could have been the cause. I did think that I had successfully performed a factory reset but maybe not as that did not fix the issue.
I have just done another factor reset and ran though the setup and it now report v31 and appears to be working ok again. Is there a way to stop it from doing a firmware update?
Thanks to all for posting on this thread.

How do I check firmware version?
