Hi there,
I have just set up my Aria to wifi for the first time which was successful, but now receieve the following messages:
Hi 🙂
Sensing
Step off
Step off
Step off
Step off
Err
I have removed all batteries for a short period and also am only attempting this on a hard surface. All to no avail.
Are there any other options to get this working?
Thanks in advance.

I got this scale about 8 months ago, but only used it for about 4 months and the same issue. Tried everything. What a waste of money.

I used my Aria for the past 2 years as a guest and did not connect it to Wifi...I just moved and the first time I went to use it, I had to connect it to wifi. I was successful in doing so, but receive the same Step Off, Thinking, ERR message every time now. I never had an issue before but the moment it was synced to my account, it stopped working. I have tried stepping on and off and taking the batteries out, but nothing has fixed the issue.

I ran into the exact same issue with the aria fitbit scale after couple years: Messages 'step off' and 'sensing' keep rotating and never go off until it drains the battery; scale unusable. I figure I will need to figure it out since it's not long under warranty. After I read through all the messages in this thread, I've tried all of the suggested steps such as re-calibration, factory reset, flip over, etc... Nothing worked. It was either hiding the message by chucking it in the garbage can like one of the good suggestion or trying to fix it myself since I had nothing to lose. I decided to open it up and see what I could figure out. And yes, I was able to figure the issue and fixed it. The steps and picture follow if you want to try fixing it yourself. Be ware that you're trying the fix on something otherwise will be useless so the worst is it's gone. If your scale is still under warranty then I highly suggest you calling fitbit support and get a replacement instead of opening it up since it probably will void the warranty
The problem is with the 4 base stands where the sensors are located and the parts sitting on top of the sensors are made of plastics and can be broken over period of use or some weird force applied to the parts causing it to break. This will cause the sensors to become unstable and keep jumping between state. The first picture show the scale after the bottom plastic base is removed. To remove the plastic cover, unscrew the 2 screws by the battery first then use a flat screwdriver to run along the side and pile it open. A little bit of force will be needed to push it open since it's pushed into the pillars on the scale (see picture).
Once the plastic cover is off, you will see the 4 base stands at the 4 corner, use the flat screw driver to flip the lock and remove the stand, Once your remove it you will see the break pretty easily by inspection. The second picture show that part closed up. You will need to glue the broken parts together. The best method I came up with is to get a piece of small hard wire and put across the broken parts and put superglue on it to attach to the broken parts together. To put this thing back to the base, you will have to make sure the spring coil is in correct position as well as the magnetic disc and the rubber ring. Just use a little bit of superglue to glue them in place. That will make your job putting them back to the base much easier. I recommend you taking pictures before removing things so you remember where things are.
That's it, putting things back and boom, my scale started working flawlessly again! Hopefully this will help those who are handy with tools or like to explore other options beside 'hiding the message' option :). I really doubt fitbit support will be able to help fixing the issue through the phone without replacement the whole because of the broken part.
Happy Scaling!

I was thinking of creating a youtube video following up my previous post regarding the fix but after quick search on youtube, I found one article that identified similar breakage as mine. However, the fix there is more complicated involving 3D print of the whole new plastic base part which could be fixed with simple superglue+wire as shown in my previous post. I post the link here any way so you can see the actual broken part (no need to take everything out like he did) and how to take the base cover off. You can just leave everything attached to the broken plastic part and still able to fix it.
Here is the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FeWzibIgPW4
See my post for fix.

That is excellent Jonathan! Really appreciate your time and effort in suggesting a real fix for this ongoing issue. Thank you so much. All the best from Northern Ontario :canada:.

Sadly after removing the cover (really hard and have broken one of the pillars as it seemed to be glued) none of the four feet has this issue for me as all the plastic parts are complete and intact. I was really hopeful this would be a resolution but not to be for me.
Also word of warning to those taking the case apart the WLAN antennas are on the side and very fragile.
Thanks for the detailed instructions (and the tip about the wire).

Sorry to hear it didn't work for you @SunsetRunner. Did you check other parts as well such as the rubber rings to make sure they're sitting correctly and not deformed? Having those rubber rings deformed or incorrect position might cause the problem as well, I believe. You just have inspect all the parts sitting on top of the those metal pressure sensors. I would remove them all and inspect them and put them together again and try out. The problem seems to be pretty much related to the sensor not reading probably and it's pretty mechanical to me from what I see from inspection of the parts.

Went through the whole reset process with no joy. Then I tried this 'weigh me 5 times' and still no joy.
The process did not work for me.

Thanks a lot! We are on our second Aria now and when it started to show the same symptoms as the first one (which we had to throw away) I started to search for others with similar "step-off" error. Luckily I found your solution. Kudos!
I did not manage to glue the plastic since it was broken in several places - but I made a circular ring with silicone glue around the metal sensor and attached the broken base-stand with that. Ok, not the finest solution but it works!

I had found a YouTube video talking about this. two of the plastic rings were broken so I super glued them in place and that worked really well.
I inspected all the wires and everything looks good, but I'm still getting the error message. I disassembled everything and looked at it all again, and the plastic is still holding just fine and everything is in the right place. Unfortunately, it is still giving me the error message. Any other thoughts?
I have also done a factory reset and that didn't help.

I finally just gave up on the Aria (and any Fitbit equipment for that matter) and bought a Eufy. It was very reasonably priced, shipped quickly, easy to use and way more information that FitBit. I've lost a lot of faith in this company since it was acquired by UA, they just don't care about their products or customers.

Glad to hear that you are pleased with your new scale. I agree that the company is so changed in terms of its customer support. Very disappointing. All the best.

I have two Aria scales in both my washrooms and they are BOTH doing the same thing. I've tried everything also- and they both started doing it around the same time oddly enough
