I got a warning the batteries on my aria were low, so I changed them. After that it just says "setup active", so I went through the steps to reconnect it. There is no problem through the step where I connect my computer to the "AriaXXXX" network - that part works fine but as soon as I click the "I'm connected" button I get stuck. Using my laptop it says "No internet connection", while on my phone it just hangs forever trying to connect to "1.scale.www.fitbit.com". I have tried removing the batteries and then trying again a few minutes later (and even tried a second set of batteries just in case) but it's always the same. This is the same wifi network, modem, location in the house, etc that was working fine an hour ago before changing the batteries.

the hosts really are terrible here arent they. Thanks for the truly helpful suggestions from the participants however. Intermittently I have had this problem. don't let the batteries die, it really sucks to try to reconnect. if you change them, do it quickly. not great advice but I have been using it for a couple of years and it worked until now. Now I am trying to reconnect today.

@jkpillow Thank you for joining our Fitbit Community! I'm sorry to hear that your Aria scale is not connecting to your network. I would like to follow up on this and would like to know a few details that will help me to assist you accordingly:
- Is your Aria showing any error message when you try to connect it?
- At what point does the connection process get stuck?
Looking forward to your response!

Anyone actually made this change on WINDOWS ? I tried and even though I have administrator access - the file save was denied. I called microsoft and they said files in the SYSTEM32 folder MAY NOT BE CHANGED ... period ... accept with 3rd party special software ( which they advised me AGAINST doing).
So how did anyone change this file ?

You need to open the editor (Notepad) as an administrator since your user is still limited in normal activities. You need to right click and say "Run as Administrator" then open the file from Notepad.
Try these instructions here: https://support.rackspace.com/how-to/modify-your-hosts-file/. It provides instructions for most windows and other OS'

@tmorris2 It's great to see you in our Fitbit Community! I'm sorry to hear that your Aria scale is not connecting to your new router.
Please let me know what is the make and model of your router. Also, make sure that it's running the protocol 802.11b and bandwidth 2.4GHz. Finally, let me know if you get any error message during the setup process.
In the meantime, please follow the instructions listed in this help article, which are the steps to reconnect your Aria to a new network.
@Madmoose @cmendes0101 Thank you guys for your help and assistance!
@VERSEMASTER In order to fix the accuracy issue, please restart and re-calibrate your scale by taking out the batteries for 15 seconds and put them back in. After this, weigh yourself 5 times in a row. Finally, make sure that you are stepping on the scale barefoot and the scale is placed on a hard surface. Let me know if this fixes the issue.
See you guys later!

Excactly! I have the same problem for months without help, and just ended up not using my scale or fitbit anymore. How can you proceed to the next step in your browser, when you are not connected to wifi, but the aria weight/device? And how can I connect the device if wifi is not connected to the device. Catch 22... Did you ever sort this one out?
Same here - terrible customer service!
The issue is not the router, its the set up instructions from fitbit. You’re asked to connect your device (im assuming mobile/computer) to Aria network, and then proceed back to webbrowser, mind you that now has no connection to wifi, as you are connected to a device, with no network...(because thats what your trying to connect in the first place..) so what ends up happening is you get the network «no internet» error message. How do you in Fitbit mean that the device will be able to proceed to next step without device having network? Catch 22 on steroids..

@Cgron Welcome to our Fitbit Community! I'm sorry for the late response and the setup difficulties you've experienced with your Aria scale.
I totally understand how frustrating this is for you. However, I want to follow up and would like to know if the issue persists or if you managed to set up your scale.
In the meantime, make sure that you are following the setup instructions that are advised in this help article.
Keep me posted!

If after changing the batteries you accidentally tap them during the WI-FI reconnect it will go into the set-up. Just drop a battery out and in again and put them down. Wait for the screen to go off and your away.
Hope that helps

Spent ages trying to find a solution to this apparently common problem and finally found this solution which worked first time.
Would be such a simple fix for Fitbit to update their web setup to direct users to the IP address and solve all this unnecessary customer pain.

This is very frustrating. I agree Fitbit needs to fix it on their end. Products should be accommodated with working updates to make it a long term investment. Not have to buy a new one to get one that works.

I have been having this issue lately. My device is three years old and obviously outside warranty. My batteries had gotten low and I replaced them only to get locked in the "SETUP ACTIVE" loop. the scale was still linked to my wifi but just not sending info therefore it wouldn't come out of setup. my Hour chat yielded little besides the suggestion to Clear Cookies on the browser and ensure my WIFI was at 802.11b and frequency of 2.4GHz. (I have not changed anything in my setup in the past three years so that shouldn't be the issue. What had worked twice now for me was to do a FACTORY RESET ( I googled a youtube video on it, its super easy) then I reconnected my device via my phone. there was no reason to assume m device was defective when it worked just fine yesterday. I will keep this one as long as it turns on because its so hard to find recycling centers that will take electronics.

I finally solved the problem of the dodgy Aria 1 scales... I have now purchased a set of Withings scales for two-thirds of the price of the Aria. The Withings software allows you to connect with the Fitbit App. The Withings scales are much better and provide more information. The Aria Scales are in the bin... wish I had done it sooner.

At this point it’s obvious that the software need to be updated, but they probably are refusing to do it in order to make you buy the newest version. Which seems kind of shady to me. Planned obsolescence strikes again.

First my Charge, then my Ionic and now my Aria, I can only conclude Fitbit are just poor quality with a short shelf life. All broken around the year mark. The help centre is equally hopelessly inadequate.

I'm having the exact same problem as you are. It is different than the solution posted where you change the Hosts file to the correct IP address. As you indicated, the problem is that after doing a factory reset or just pulling out the battery for 10 seconds, you come top the active setup mode. You are instructed to go to your mobile device (or on your computer) and search for the Aria network on your Wi-Fi settings on your phone. I connect to the Aria network with no problem except the message the comes up on my phone is "Connected without internet". This means that the Aria's Wi-Fi isn't providing an internet connection. That , in turn, means that you can't go back to your PC and complete the setup because the next step says "Come back to this page after connecting to the Aria network". You can't connect to the Aria network if the Aria network can't connect to the internet so this is indeed a "catch22' situation. As with others, I've been using this Aria for over 3 years now on this same router and Wi-fi with no issues. My battery just finally died and I had to replace them for the 1st time. Lucky me!
