Broken sensor on Aria

My scale was giving consitently showing  the 'step off' sensing message. I read how to open it up and look inside and sure enough, the plastic mounting bracket that holds one of the sensors was broken. Support told me that I was out of warranty, replacement parts are not available and there is no repair option.

Since this is not only, the most expensive scale I have ever purchased, but also the most short lived scale I can not recommend that anyone purchase it. If someone in support can contact me and give me a repair option I'll change my tune.

@mdjson @aco2x I know that this is not the solution you were expecting. I'm afraid that we don't sell or deliver these parts separately. I appreciate your understanding with this.

@JuanJoFitbit if I was able to print this broken part with my 3D printer and offer it to the people in need at no cost (except postage), people who are on the edge of throwing this scales away as being out warrant and there are no replacement parts for them... Would you have anything agains this?

They would, they’d be loosing money cause we wouldn’t have to go buy their new **ahem** scale.

That's a generous offer. I would take you up on that offer, but I tossed
my scale some time ago. Wonder why fitbit hasn't come up with that
solution yet? Their engineers still seem to be stumped as how to resolve
the issue.

Dashony...I'm interested in one of the plastic parts if you have another. Just opened up my scale to find one is broken...it is certainly out of warranty period so not going to bother asking for assist there.

Thanks.

Just waiting on  @JuanJoFitbit to confirm they are ok with this, I don’t want to get in trouble with FitBit. I’m not asking for their blueprint for the part since someone had already designed the part and I have printed the part and tested and fixed my scale, not asking for Fitbit to support me in any way, not asking for any money for plastic I use or for the printer usage time which takes about 40 minutes to print one leg/part.

All I need is for FitBit to say, sure go ahead we have nothing against this since the scales are broken, out of warranty, we have no spare parts for them anyways.

@Dashony That's a nice offer. However, posting the that information here, would fall under "solicitation". For more information about the Community Guidelines, please go to this page.

I'll be around if more any questions arise!

Hard to call it solicitation when he’s not ASKING for anything; but rather OFFERING a solution (for free) to fellow Aria owners since your worthless company won’t stand behind or service the products it sells.

@Dashony I’d be interested in a couple of the sensor holders you mention. I have two that are broken. I’d much rather replace them than repair them.

I have two good senors/feet and two broken ones.  I will send you mine if you contribute $$ to a good cause.  I suggest the Arthritis Foundation where I am on the board.  I will even bring them to you if you attend my favorite event...

Okay, so having Googled the crap of this I have determined that

a) Fitbit support sucks and I will never buy a product from them. Ever.

b) None of the other solutions are really viable due to my location.

So I went old-school and just jammed 2 small supports (ie. Folded up pieces of paper) in between the feet and the broken flimsy plastic thingy.

Worked a charm! No more dead battery, no more "step off step off step off step off" and checked the accuracy and it appears to be spot on!

The evidence points to a company (Fitbit) not even slightly interested in retaining users. The reason the warranty period is reduced and limited to ONE year is in line with what appears to be planned device obsolescence in a bid to have users replace Fitbit devices after 2 years.

Frustrating because it is not clear that this is a “disposable” device when purchasing. Will never purchase another Fitbit.

The sensor is broken on my Aria as well. Of course, the warranty is JUST up as well. Almost like engineered obsolescence.  Did you get yours fixed? I am sure not buying another one to have the same thing keep happening.
