Difference between Aria and Aria 2

Hi

Apart from the price point, what is the difference between the Aria and Aria 2? I can't see any enhancements in the specs to warrant considering an upgrade.

Thanks

I've had the original Aria 1 since launch. It has always lasted a long time on my Eneloop rechargeable batteries. Many months before needing to be recharged. Then when I replace them, I only replace one battery at a time. Always leaving two batteries in. Doing it this way I've not needed to set it up again. While if I removed all the batteries at once, I would need to go through the setup process again.

The thing I never liked about the Aria 1 was that it could only use wireless b and g. Which is the only device out of dozens I have that needs that. So one of my Access Points needs a dedicated SSID for wireless G. With the Aria 2 I see it can handle wireless N(2.4Ghz). Which every wireless device I've had for many, many years could handle.

It would be nice to upgrade. But since my original Aria 1 has been almost flawless since launch, I see no reason to spend $130 for an Aria 2. But if my Aria 1 ever dies, then I won't hesitate to buy an Aria 2.

Get this.  After hours of trouble shooting with Fitbit live help on why I couldn't connect to my new network.  I learn this:

Fitbit Aria 1 was released in 2012 and ONLY is compatible with the 802.11b internet standard.  This internet standard came out in 2003.  Since 802.11b, there have been two newer faster generations released, 802.11g and 802.11n with "n" being the fastest and most recent - released in 2009.

The Aria 2 magically is compatible with all the internet standards.  Fitbit refuses to do a patch on the Aria 1 to make it what it should have been before they released it with only ancient internet standard compatibility.

They did this, to force people to shell out another $120 for what they should have got when they got a dumb brick of a scale for $120 in the first place.  I'm going to Garmin.  This is pathetic.

I hope this saves at least one person from wasting their money like I did.

You are mad that Fitbit won’t update the firmware of a 6 year old product when a viable replacement model is available if your router doesn’t play nice with backwards compatibility. 🙄

I don't think it's a must upgrade like a smart phone or anything.  But I might be upgrading mine at some point this year purely for cosmetic reasons.  Noticed a bunch of metallic looking flakes like glitter on the top of my Aria just now.  It is the metallic paint flaking off of the round bezel/edge of the display on my Aria.  Probably from where I just got through using a Clorox wipe to clean the nastiness off the top of my scale....doh!

Note to self, bleach and IoT devices don't mix too well....lol

Love my Aria though and my Ionic.

Your help article neglects to mention one other variable that I think can effect your weight at any given point during the day.  Tide aka the gravitational pull of the moon.  I always try to weigh myself at the same time every morning right before hopping in the shower.  Doctors appointments are usually in the afternoons and I kind of expect my weight to be different between clothes, gravitational pull of the moon, what I have ate and drank, when I last went to the bathroom for either reason.  All these things can probably cause my weight to vary by a good 3 to 6 pounds or more.

Wow... I have never had any of the problems you have had. You must have gotten a defective product.

The aria 2 has terrible connection issues.

Even after you reset the device it connects and syncs for about 2 days then again it start saying can not connect, wifi not available etc.

This happens again and again and again.

Updating the wifi on the app to factiryvresetting the device..... nothing helps...

It's rather worthless with this kind of constant errors.

@abhishek_s Thank you for joining us in this thread and our Fitbit Community! I'm sorry to hear that your Aria 2 stops connecting to your network constantly. I would like to know a couple of details that will help me to assist you accordingly: Does your scale display any error message while it tries to connect? Have you made changes to your network recently (router, router settings or WiFi password)?

Looking forward to your response! Smiley Happy

Hi,

It says “Cannot Connect” “WIFI not available” and a sad smiley face. With a
x mark below.

The Wi-Fi is the same and was working fine till one day it just was not.

Post that I have done the following.

1. Used the Fitbit app[ to update the Wi-Fi
2. Used the Fitbit app to update the Wi-Fi to a different SSID on a
different router
3. Factory reset the Aria, deleted the Aria from my Fitbit account and
did the setup from scratch

In each of these cases it worked fine for a couple of readings and then
reverted to the same error message as listed above.

Appreciate your help.

Thank you

Regards

I laughed so hard at this I had to make an account just to comment. All these things I do and thought I was the only one.

Flipping it over so the battery last longer.

Getting different readings in the same area.

Picking it up so it's stops syncing and starts thinking.

@Sofunny Welcome to our Fitbit Community! I would like to follow up and would like to know if your Aria is still unable to sync your data.

Please restart and re-calibrate your scale by taking out the batteries for 15 seconds and put them back in. Once this has been done, weigh yourself 5 times in a row and see if the issue gets fixed.

Keep me posted on the outcome! Smiley Happy

TOTALLY agree on the setup for the Aria! I haven’t had many problems outside of changing the wireless network after changing service providers or moving, but good grief!! What a pain!! Painful!! I had to have my internet service rewired at my old house (because the cable guy was a complete idiot and couldn’t understand the wiring for dual networks set up by my late husband to separate his business office (located in the home) from the network used for personal use), and in the process, I don’t even know how, several of my wireless devices were FRIED - completely dead - and had to be replaced that were connected to either of the previously existing networks. Just another word of caution for other users!

Just out out of curiosity, if anyone knows what caused the failure of the devices, I’d certainly be interested in understanding. My Aria scale is actually the ONLY thing that I was ever able to use again. Reiterate - PAINFUL process to set up! When I moved (another new WiFi network) , I swear it took an hour of repeated attempts to get the darn thing connected!!

The addition of Bluetooth compatibility certainly doesn’t seem to warrant the not insignificant cost of a new scale! I have no need to read more stats from the scale that are already available on my app! Am I missing something??

I just spent an hour trying to set up the Aria 2.  I was told to contact my cable provider.  The Aria 2 requires more bandwidth than is even offered in my town.  Don't get this unless you have mega speed internet speeds.
