Fitbit Aria Air - Body fat % & BMI

Hello everyone!

I have been reading though a dozen or so threads, and thought I would post my own topic on it.

My wife & I got our Fitbit senses' a couple of weeks ago, with the aim of getting fit(the wife has been running since June, but my arthritis and bad knees don't allow me to run... So I cycle), and (for me) loosing the truck tyre from around my waist 🤔 and never owning a set of scales my entire life decided it was time to go all out and get a set of scales to monitor my weight. And what better than a set of scales that talk to the Fitbit sense and the app I'm using for my workouts and tracking.

So we purchased the Aria Air scales and they arrived 10 days ago.

I got them synced up fine, with no bother, quite intuitive - had to invite the wife to join them (which I thought was weird, I assumed she would be able to follow the same set up as I did to join them - anyway I divulge...)

My first weigh in was in the evening when I was setting them up, and I decided every other weigh in from the following day would be in the morning, after my bathroom routine, before getting dressed for work, so that I could get the most accurate weight reading every day.

The first 3 days, the body fat % slot, next to the weight remained empty, I thought it was weird, but maybe needed more info to calculate it...

Day 4 comes around, and in the morning, I weigh myself... when saved - up pops the body fat percentage next to the weight for that day... its shows as 20%...

5 days have passed since - and every weigh in, in the morning, the body fat % has remained empty...

So... What has happened? Was there an anomaly?

Some comments I read, said that the BF% isn't calculated by the app/scales? - In which case, Why is the section next to the weight there for the BF% - the app knows im using the Aria Air, and not another type of scales.

Also....

The BMI 'sign' on the scales screen...? Why is it there? Is there a way for the Aria Air scales to show the BMI?

I look forward to hearing all your comments, and advice.

Aria Air, unlike the previous Aria and Aria 2, does not measure body fat.

If you are talking about the display screen on the scale itself,  I would guess that it is a standard scale display that has the capability to display those other fields if the scale happens to calculate them; and I suppose it is cheaper to use a "stock" display part rather than build a separate one to remove those extra display fields - just my guess, but I do know it does not measure body fat %, and I have no idea how it might have one time displayed a number there.

Before posting, re-read to see if it would make sense to someone else not looking at your Fitbit or phone.

This is BS. The fact it does no longer measure BMI and body fat index is something that should have been clearly and visibly stated in product description BEFORE purchasing. Seems like the products aren't getting better. Very disappointing.

Hi, I 've just received my order today, and I am dissapointed (it is not what I expected).

Could you let me know how to return the item and ask for a refund, please? (I'm in Spain).

Kind Ragards.

I am disappointed with the Aria Air AND the Inspire - both products oversold, not enough information and inferior to their predecessors.

How did you get it to add your wife? I invited mine, she gets the invite, and accepts. When she steps on the scale it says she has to ask to be invited. Yesterday I had the app open, she stepped on the scale and it wanted to update my weight with hers…

I had the same issue (as SPfister9) and after 2 hours of the help desks best effort and sending it up one level of support (that provided even less support than 1st level) I just kept trying but reversed the order. Cleared the scale then had my wife set it up and invite me. same result.....mostly, eventually it did in fact read my weight and hers. Like all things wireless there can be difficulty and conflict. they did point me to this link help.fitbit.com/articles/en_US/Help_article/1866?p=scale#ariaair. (Then hit the scale drop down for some useful troubleshooting)
