Fitbit Aria reading Body fat way too high, and won't re-calibrate itself

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

My fitbit usually reads my BF as around 21%. After connecting to the wifi at my new apartment it started reading it as 41%. I'm pretty active and i know for certain that i am not 41% body fat, and it's pretty much impossible for someone my size. I tried the taking the batteries out for 15 seconds and then weighing myself 5 times and that didn't work. Is there something else i can do to calibrate the scale?

I have the same issue. My BF was usually constant at 21% and it suddenly jumped to 36%. The measures were taken a day apart. It started measuring wrongly around July 3rd , more or less when I update the App. I am not sure if it is related but it is really suspicious. Does anyone know a solution?

@Jahenry4  welcome to our Fitbit Community! I'm happy to assist you with your Aria 2 since it's not providing accurate body fat percentage readings. by the way, thank you for troubleshooting this issue before contacting our forums.

Please make sure that your Aria 2 is placed on a hard surface. Also, make sure that your profile settings (height, weight and gender are correct. If these details are already covered, let me know and I'll be happy to follow up.

@deMoraes it's great to see you in our Fitbit Community! Regarding the inaccurate body fat readings that your Aria 2 is experiencing, I'd like you to try the following troubleshooting steps if you haven't tried in.

Please restart and re-calibrate your scale by taking out the batteries for 15 seconds and put them back in. After this, weigh yourself 5 times in a row. Make sure that you are standing still on the scale and barefoot and see if the accuracy gets fixed.

Keep me posted on the outcome! Smiley Happy

I have reset it several times, I.e., removed the batteries and tried to calibrate again the result did not change. It started about a month ago 😞

There was App update today. I think something has been fixed because after the update it started to work again

I’ve got the same issue and after following these instructions and measuring five times the BF is still ridiculously higher (was 18% then jumped to 30%). In the five consecutive measures I did BF went from 30.6% to 29% in increments. That can’t be right.  I also recently recalibrated our WiFi. Please advise what to do.

@Gilad-v  Unfortunately, I cannot say how the problem was solved. I tried resetting and changing batteries but nothing really helped. One day after one App update it started to work again. I always assumed it was the update: either it fixed something or it somehow forced it back to the “working” state.

Mine too, and it's been this way since I took it out of the box. Very disappointing, since I'm into body building and wanted an accurate fat percentage assessment. No way 32% of me is fat. This wouldn't even be close to accurate on the classic BMI calculator.

This has happened since I got the scale a while ago - It shows about 32%, but my sister's scale and my doctor calculate around 24%.  I tried the recalibration instructions and nothing changed.  Is there another way to fix this? Thanks.

Honestly, mine never got fixed. I tried resetting it and nothing. If it is still on the warranty get in contact with fitbit. In my case, I ended up changing brands: I got a new one from a different company.

I had the same problem. I gave a good cleaning to the surface of the scale and the readings went back to normal.

I found it! Haven’t verified if it fixes the problem though.

log into Fitbit.com, dashboard, gear icon, aria scale, people tab, click your name, body type.

Hope that helps!
