Fitbit Aria will not connect to my WiFi!

Hello everyone!

I know this is a hot topic and I have been through all of the support articles, and related threads, but I'm just not finding a solution. I had my Aria since 2015 and here and there I remember running into connection issues. I recently moved and I brought my scale with me but I never connected it to my new WiFi until recently. I tried different set up method: the set up for mac program, set up through the internet browser, set up through a mobile device, and for each set-up, I cannot get past step 4: where it connects to the WiFi. It just says ERR and the scale goes back to SETUP ACTIVE. I have comcast WiFi 2.4Ghz network. Password and WiFi name are all alphanumerical. The scale is in close range to the router. Has anyone else had a similar issue? I had the same internet type at my old home with comcast, so I'm not sure why it won't connect this time.

I have the same problem, moving an existing Aria scale to a different wifi network.  The same thing happened last time I changed wifi networks and I wound up throwing away the old Aria scale and buying a new one.  I'm going through the steps in the suggested post but honestly, it seriously should not be that complicated.  Aria scale connects new a new wifi out of box fine, but try to change networks and it barfs all over the place.

Since you mentioned that you have a new network, please let me know what is the make and model of your router. Also, let me know if your Aria scale shows any error message.

Thanks for your reply; however, I have given up on trying to connect this scale. Not going to waste any more time on it. Thanks

The error is the same routine others post, ending in WIFI ERR, over and over.  I have a NEW Xfinity router, and other articles mention problems connecting to the new XFinity routers.  The new router is managed by Xfinity and only gives me access to very few configuration options, no ability to change between g/n and b/g/n myself, and I just don't want to deal with going through Comcast support to get them to change the router config.  Finally came up with this workaround.

1 - I had an old Netgear wifi router, and fortunately still new the admin username and password.  Connected that directly to my PC with regular ethernet cable.  Logged into the router and configured internet port to use the Xfinity (10.0.0.x) network range.  Configured the 2.4 wireless network to use a different (192.168.0.x) range with only WPA2-PSK [AES] security, password with letters only.

2 - disconnected the Netgear router from the PC and plugged it into the new XFinity router using crossover cable from ethernet port on Xfinity router to internet port on the old Netgear router.  Netgear connected to internet and is now providing wireless network on 192.168.0.x range, with internet access via the hardwired connection on the Xfinity network range.

3 - back at my PC connected to the Netgear wifi network and ran fitbit.com/setup, with the Aria scale just inches away from the Netgear router.  Aria finally connected to the Netgear wifi network.

This is more convoluted than many users will want to deal with, but if you have an old wifi router lying around and not afraid to get into the router configuration, it's a workaround.

My Fitbit Aria hasn’t synced since the firmware update in December.  I haven’t synced since 12/24/2018.  I tried all the steps and  I can’t get the wi-fi linked backed up.  Wish I could get back to factory reset.  Took scale near router and still will not sync with WiFi   The router has not changed since setting up.

The router is provided by Spectrum. Arris DG1670.

I have tried all of the steps provided. For troubleshooting. Using the phone and the computer. Took batteries out and replaced.

The scale was syncing fine until Christmas Eve. After an update. The scale has been connected the same WiFi since buying.

No error message just not syncing.

I even read the community post about troubleshooting.

I believe I will just use it as a regular scale since it can’t sync. Will not buy another scale in the future because too much work to get it too get it to re-sync.

Not going to replace it. Just replaced my blaze because of issues.

WOW Fitbit support is truly a joke.  Who works in support? a bunch of 3rd graders?  They are completely CLUELESS on how to fix their own product

I had the same issue. I think it may be related to the security protocol. It worked with WEP and doesn't wok with WPA

So I configured a dedicated wireless SSID with no authentication beside MAC address filtering (the mac address of the scale is in the battery place) and it connected. It will be the only device on this SSID.

I was not able to connect it by WPA/WPA2

Annoying but I will not purchase another connected scale just for this issue.

I had the same issue when I changed my wifi 2 years ago, and have not been connected since. I just changed my wifi again to a Velop Mesh system and thought I would try it again.  Had the same problem initially.  When I opened the battery cover, I noticed the MAC address of the scale.  I went to my wifi system and went to add device and Chose WPS, then MAC filtering, and I entered the MAC address of the scale.  Then went through the setup process as normal and it worked.  Maybe I just got lucky.

My Aria will occasionally not connect, and then will connect on different days, and then not, etc.

The issue may be due to FitBit's use of CloudFlare to block denial of service attacks.

My home is protected by a whole-house VPN. Essentially I pipe all Internet traffic through to a server somewhere in the US so that my ISP can't sniff, nor block services. Today my Aria did not connect again so I tried to get to FitBit's support page - only to receive a CloudFlare error message.

I turned off the whole-house VPN and everything connected fine. Turn it back on (and get a different outgoing IP address from the VPN server) and the Aria still connects.

My router reboots everyday to keep everything fresh. Each reboot causes a new VPN tunnel to be created. Each new VPN tunnel will get a randomly assign IP address depending on which server the VPN provider dynamically allocates to my connection.

My hypothesis is that FitBit's CloudFlare set up rejects connections from some IP addresses and not others. The Aria is connected to the Internet, but when it attempts to talk to FitBit's server the connection request is intercepted and terminated by the CloudFlare service. The Aria then sees this as a connection error and reports it as such.

The Aria is on the home's Wi-Fi network. Its not distance, network changing, etc. Instead it is the IP address that the Aria presents to FitBit (CloudFlare) that is blocked. Some ISPs can change the IP address assigned to a house on a daily basis, others on a monthly basis - reseting the modem will often force a new IP address that may or may not be acceptable to FitBit (CloudFlare).

I too am unable to connect my Aria to my wifi since installing a new modem. I can get through the setup to joining wifi then err.

The modem is a Fritz!Box 7430 YX.

Do you know if there are any issues with this particular modem?

Thanks.

I had this problem. I couldn't get it to connect. Last option I tried was to delete it out of my profile and setup up scale like a intial setup. It went through the complete setup with my new internet no problem. Hope this helps.

Thanks for that, appreciate the suggestion.
