How to: Setup your Fitbit Aria

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

The simplest and quickest approach to setting up your Aria scale is by installing and running the setup software from here.

If you are unable to complete the setup with this software, we recommend using the web-based setup as a secondary alternative. Complete instructions for this process can be found in this help article, along with the instructional video below.

Setting up your Aria via the Web-based Method

For assistance with putting your Aria in "Setup Active" mode, please consult this post.

If you are unable to complete the setup process using the above information, check this help article for more setup tips. For further assistance, please contact our Support Team at http://contact.fitbit.com or join the discussion in our Aria Community forum. Be sure to provide as many details as possible about where in the process you are getting stuck and what error you are encountering.

My router shows 802.11n.  I'm not a techno geek.  How do I get around this?

@MarreFitbit- your robotic regurgitation of the setup instructions does nothing to help the discussion or assist any of the thousands of people who have issues getting their scales setup.

That is what I did.

No longer needed. I returned my Aria. When Fitbit figures out how to update the technology I might consider buying one again. Thanks for your input.

This scale has to be one of the most frustrating things I have ever had to setup up or deal with.

It should have been just a bluetooth scale to just connect to the app, and not need any wifi at all. I tried every troubleshooting solution, read every complaint and am just fed up with this. I literally just spent five hours of my day trying to make this work.

To whomever at FitBit reads this, please keep things simple and just make this scale a bluetooth device or even just a regular ole scale. I would hope there could be something done with a firmware update or somerthing. I can't return this unfortunately, but I sure do wish I could get my money back.

For future readers, almost none of the troubleshooting is effective. If you have a AC router, might as well hang it up and not try, or go buy a G router and bridge it.

Im having the same issue, I connect to Aria in the wifi and cant get any further than that, Ive tried on the web and also the software. it doesnt even allow me past there, once I select aria then hit the Im connected, it goes to the page saying im not connected to the internet.

Same with the software, it just stops doing anything, see screen links below, then gives me the error message.  I have tried over 25 times to no avail.

I also want my money back, this is Bull**ahem**

Spent all day trying to change wifi name and password without luck.

Found out the reason in a chat tonight. The ATT router has a "+" in the password, making it a strong password.  But Fitbit will not permit a strong password with an "+" in it.

Therefore, the Aria scale is now just a scale, and now off the Christmas gift list as I haven't a clue on what friends have for passwords.

UK User. I have had the Aria for a couple of years - and although fiddly to setup first time round, everything eventually worked fine. Recently, BT upgraded my router. The Aria would not reconnect. I have spent several evenings trying all of the hints, tricks and workarounds mentioned in this thread and others.

Support were sympathetic - and sent me a new scale. The new scale is, as far as I can make out, technologically identical to the one that it replaced. Perhaps unsurprisingly, it doesn't work.

I'm no IT expert, but a common theme in the forums is the 802.11b question - an outdated protocol that the scale needs to use.

I have tried to strongarm my router to work on the old protocols - which it resists (I quickly reach the end of my competence). Ultimately, I am not going to invest more time, or potentially compromise my network performance so that my scales upload my weight to a web interface (that is frankly a bit clunky too.)

I have done this numerous times and with 2 different Aria's.  While I love my FITBIT, I changed my network and cannot get it to synch anymore.  Very frustrating. Great product that is not very user friendly. I should not have to spend half a day googling how to change my ARIA network.

I have watched the video that FITBIT has provided. Is there one that is more advanced for those having more issues?

My scale does not connect to my dashboard no matter what I have done (and I have 2 scales now as I believe in this product and company and just thought my 1st one was broken).

OK, here's a thing.  I've read this thread plus a whole load of others on other user groups.  Let's get one thing straight - the Aria's WiFi connectivity is a pile of bull**ahem**.

I've been in IT for over 30 years, the last 15 as an infrastructure consultant, I install commercial-grade WiFi systems for a living and I cannot see why the hell this won't connect.  Yeah, I get the 802.11b legacy support, I actually install warehouse monitoring systems which require the same, so it's not new to me.  So how come Fitbit tech support can't provide an answer to this?  The repeated mantra of 'read this setup guide' wore thin many weeks/months ago, you need to get your head outa your arse and give your customers the support they deserve.  You can start with me, the Aria is on V37 and my WiFi network (Ubiquiti Unifi) has a dedicated SSID with legacy support (802.11b), an SSID with just alpha characters and it's open.  So please don't point me at the standard set up guide, it doesn't work, period.

Thanks.

I agree with you. I am IT pro as well.My router is a RT-AC68U, it worked fine. Then I changed the batteries and it will not connect anymore, I get the WIFI ERR.  I even changed everything to ONLY be 802.11b and nothing. Mine is V39.  Will not connect anymore.   In between the scale not connecting my router and taken several firmware upgrades. So something broke something.

Is there a way to get a log file out of the scale to see what the exact problem is?

Best Answer

OK, more testing, I should be charging for this.

I've dug out an old D-Link wireless AP (good old fashioned 802.11b hardware) and configured it from scratch to an SSID of IOTNET.  I can connect to it from a laptop and DHCP gives me a valid IP/Gateway/DNS etc.  The Aria setup app STILL FAILS with a NO SYNC message.  This is such a pile of **ahem**.

So, completely dedicated WiFi AP on a valid network connection, still not working.  Where now??

End of log file as follows, at least it now recognises it as 802.11b...

Hi Steve,

I'm really sorry you are having such a nightmare setting up your Aria scales. I posted on here a few moans a few years ago when I got my scales, but recently I;ve had quite a few people messaging me on the forum. I don't work for fitbit, i'm just a customer, and I am really sorry but I don't don't understand your logs. Hopefully a real support person from fitbit will look at your logs and give you some helpful advice.

I wish you good luck in getting your scales setup,

Sally/'Advertwoman'

I traced the scale's attempt using a packet sniffer, which I detailed a few pages back.

Honestly, I don't think FitBit GAFF at this point; the Aria is now just another orphaned IOT product.
