Original stuck stuck in setup mode after battery change

I’ve had my scales for years without a problem, but this morning I’ve changed the batteries and the scales are not stuck in setup mode. 

I’ve seen others with this problem from years ago & the solution was to delete the scales & set them up again. I cannot do that any more as the original scales are no longer available in the app to set up. 

is there a solution to this, or are my otherwise perfectly functioning scales now junk?
