Turning Aria Air ON/OFF

When I'm stepping off my ARIA AIR scale the screen turns blue after approximately 30 secs and I'm not able to do another weigh in, unless I take the batteries out and restart it. 

With my normal scale I just step on it, to turn it on and when I step off it it turns itself off after a few moments. 

Is taking out/putting in the batteries the only way to turn the ARIA AIR on/off?

I don't use the Air but I found this in the manual:

Weigh yourself
1. Place the scale on a flat, hard surface.
2. Open the Fitbit app on your nearby phone.
3. While barefoot, step onto Aria Air. The screen displays your weight.
4. Step off the scale, and check the Fitbit app. Tap Save when your weight log appears.
5. Tap the weight log for more details. 

Could it just be that you need the app open?

My app is open, while I'm doing it, so I guess that's not the solution

Did you ever figure this out?  Just got the air and it was on long enough for me to sync with my phone, then the screen turned off and I can't figure out how to get it back on to weigh.  😕
