Hi Fitbit users!
I’m posting my experience with the Fitbit ARIA in hopes that you all will avoid the pitfalls I fell in to. First off, do *not* buy this scale! If you already own one, then read on.
The Fitbit ARIA needs *VERY* specific WiFi settings or else it’s completely useless. Make sure that:
- Router must be configured for 802.11 b protocol connection
- Router must be configured to 2.4 GHz.
- Automatic (DHCP) IP setup (static IP configurations are not supported)
- WiFi password must not exceed 32 alphanumeric characters
- Your SSID and password should contain only alphanumeric characters (e.g. A-Z, 0-9). If you experience issues connecting to a network that uses special characters, change the name of the network to only use alphanumeric characters, and try to connect again.
If you’ve checked and confirmed that all of these requirements are met and the scale still won’t connect to the app, then it’s garbage. There is no option to have the scale or repaired or swapped out for a working one. Fitbit recommends (per the support rep I spoke with) that you “recycle” the scale... in other words, throw it away and buy a different scale. The scale is only guaranteed to work for *ONE* year. If you have a lightly used ARIA that you bought 1 year and 1 day ago and it won’t connect, just throw it in the garbage.
This is information I wish I would have known before I purchased. I would have steered clear of Fitbit altogether. Don’t flush your money down the toilet, invest in a scale that will work for more than one year. Fitbit requires you to buy a brand new ARIA scale every year. They’re basically disposable scales that last for a year and then you throw it away and buy a new one. That’s the only way to ensure that it will work properly.

Do you realize that it has been many years since the Aria was discontinued.
What was the common WiFi back in 2012 when the Aria was released? I do agree that the WiFi has its limitations.
I'm not sure how good warning people not to buy a scale that hasn't been availible for 3 maybe 4 years will help anyone.

a 200 dollar scale should have support for as long as you own the scale. you can buy smart scales for 25 bucks these days I don't have a problem "recycling" one of those if needed but this is a critical failure on the part of Fitbit and if they treat the area like this then they will also treat the area 2 and all of their other equipment like this. it is a valuable piece of information to have about equipment you spend hundreds of dollars on that has virtually no support from the manufacturer as soon as they are no longer making a profit off of it.
kinda tells the consumer that the brand fitbit is about as useful as the "recycled" scales.

I haven't seen anything from Fitbit that they have stopped supporting the Aria scale. Users say that when they call customer support they do get helped.
