When will Fitbit fix the modem problem on the Aria scales?

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Fitbit should announce when they will fix the problem with the Aria. I understand they did what they thought was an upgrade by changing the modem. My modem is supplied by Spectrum and I can't change it. How will Fitbit inform us that the issue has been fixed? I have a regualr scale. I check my morning weight and then have to hand record it. I do not have BMI on the back up scale so I can't monitor that. This is not good.

Hi @DramaQueenDiva , nice to see you around. Thanks for informing us about the inquiry from @warkap !

Hi @warkap , nice to see you back in the Community! Could you please be more specific to what problem are you referring to? If someone in our Team, told you that you need to change your router (modem), I apologize for this, you should not change your modem or router if it's working fine, only if it's required by your internet provider.

If you refer to the settings needed to setup the Aria, and you don't know how to change them, I'll recommend you to reach out to Spectrum. They can do the changes for you or could you guide through the process.

Please keep me posted.

I think it's an Aria thing, although I am confused why some threads say to change the modem settings and others don't.

I have an Aria 2 bought Oct 18, 2018. Zero problems until Setp 17, 2019. Now, it connects to the wifi but doesn't sync and the app continues to tell me to update my network connection. I've reset the router, reset the scale, uninstalled and reinstalled the app (Android), tried the Windows app on my computer and tried from the website.  We HAVE to have a functioning scale due to a medical condition and while it still functions as a scale, this $130 scale is functioning no better than a $35 scale.

Clearly this is a FITBIT issue because there's no way this many different routers and ISPs can be having the same problem...

I have had the same problem since May 3, 2019.  I believe my Apple airport router had a software update, then the Aria quit syncing.  I talked to both Apple and my provider Comcast as well as Fitbit.  I was told that Fitbit Aria requires 801.11b compatible network, which is pretty much no longer used.  Very frustrating and sad.  My smart scale is just a dumb one now.

Hey @WanderingLass  @LTW66 , a warm welcome to the Community! Thank you for providing us with your information.

@WanderingLass , regarding your question, why in some cases we advice to change the settings. It all depends on the information provided by the users. Some of them already checked the settings and confirmed that they are using the 801.11b protocol. Could you please confirm and verify that the settings on your router are as specified on this article? I also recoomend you to have a look at this one if your Aria is not syncing with your account

@LTW66 , thank you for taking the time to contact Apple, and Comcast. Although  801.11b is not longer a standard protocol, it is still in use, and most routers still have an option for it. It might not be  801.11b alone, but you could find this other options. 801.11bgn ,  801.11b/g/n/ac,  801.11b/g/n/a/c/n

If the settings on your router has any of these available, try please to use one of these.

And have a look at the articles I recommended @WanderingLass  .

Let me know if you have further questions

Thank you for your reply Juan.  As I mentioned, I already talked to Apple and Comcast.  My Apple Airport router no longer supports 801.11b.  I switched to a Comcast router/modem combo thinking that would resolve my issue. However, this new router also does not support 801.11b or combination including b.  Comcast recommended either 1. rolling back my Apple Airport update; 2. searching for a new router that actually supports 801.11b.  Neither of these seem reasonable to me as I am unsure on what other complications it may cause with other devices.  I see my options as  A. Waiting and buying a new Fitbit scale that doesn't require this protocol or B. (Sadly) switching completely off Fitbit products!

router settings.jpgThese are my settings. They've never changed. And I've not been able to
sync since Sept. 16th. On 3 different networks, since I've taken the extra
steps to try to connect at friend's houses as well. It connects, then tries
to sync, and says not connected. It's almost exactly 1 year old - I bought
it on Amazon Oct. 18, 2018.

So again. Fitbit, can you get YOUR act together and fix this. This is a
FITBIT issue, not an issue with thousands of users and the various routers
in use.

editing to add:  @JuanFitbit  - I've now also done a factory reset on my Aria 2.  Still nothing.  Quite conveniently, "Someone got the last chat representative" each time I try to contact via chat.  I don't have a Twitter, and don't have the battery charge to sit on hold on the phone.  An email option would be nice...or even an online submission would be nice. Quite frankly, spending $120 on a scale - it should have come with more than a 45-day warranty and having failed at less than a year - I'd like a replacement.  You can even replace it with the far less expensive Aria Air - at least then I won't have to keep fighting the wifi with it!

No surprise that Aria isn't the best smart scale but is one of the expensive ones.

I gave up on mine altogether. I bought a $30 scale that tracks more metrics and syncs via Bluetooth vs WiFi. So much easier.
