There has been a consistent difficulty with setting up the Aria Air scale since Fitbit moved to Google. When attempting to pair the device, an error occurs. Scale issue.jpg

Yep. And in that time they have launched a major update of the app and it
still does not work!

Sadly all customers views are ignored by both Fitbit and Google it seems.

Since you just received your scale, you would probably be better off returning it while you can and getting a different brand. Or return for a refund and wait till the problem is fixed.  I wouldn't hold on to it hoping for a fix, as it's been quite some time with no fix in sight. They might have it fixed today, 2 months from now, or never.

Hello, this is beyond frustrating that this isn't fixed yet. When will a fix be available so that I can connect to this scale?

Best Answer

The current state of a fix is one of:

- it's on our backlog to look at, we hope to soon

- we started looking at it

- we can reproduce the problem, but don't know what's going on

- we identified the error, working on a fix

- we are testing a fix

- the fix didn't work, trying something else

- we have released a fix

With no real updates from Fitbit, it seems like it really isn't being looked at yet.

They'll care if they lose enough Premium subscribers.
They're losing me... I'm only really interested in my weight and steps but still on my free trial period.

It’s been 2 months since you posted that the team was aware of this aria air syncing problem.  Maybe they should just let us go back to logging in with Fitbit instead of google. Things worked then. and that would give the team more time to work on the problem without impacting the users.

This was fitbit support’s response to my aria air problem;

We'll be glad to help you connect your Fitbit Aria Air.

Thank you for reaching us via chat. After checking our back-end tools, we were able to determine that your Aria Air is still linked to your account. In this scenario, we recommend you setup your scale one more time but please remove it first. To setup your Fitbit Aria Air please the instructions at https://help.fitbit.com/articles/en_US/Help_article/1873.htm?Highlight=setup.

If you're getting a message saying like "CAN'T CONNECT TO ARIA AIR" or "Aria Air is already connected to another Fitbit account" you have to tap "Reset Scale" option and do these steps to reset the scale to continue with the setup process:
  1. On the back of Aria Air, touch and hold the button for 5 seconds. The display flashes otA.
  2. Then touch and hold the button for another 5 seconds, until the display shows clr.
  3. Your scale is reset.
If you have any other questions, please visit help.fitbit.com
i can’t tell you how many times I tried what they suggested and it never worked. Just tried again yesterday after replacing battery and it still can’t pair.
so frustrating. Everything was fine before they told us to login to fitbit with our google account instead of fitbit info.

Yeah….reality is…..Google not in the scale hardware business and not in business of partnering with 3rd party scale producers.

All they want is the data. Apple eating their lunch in that their fitness app does synch with 3rd party vendors. A return to Apples first strategy that made them who they are. They did not go proprietary until they proved the value in ramrodding to their customers.

If you can…..bail out on your scale or else be happy with manual entries, et al.

Even if it worked…it’s a cumbersome method that I am sure has been leap frogged.

My scale was on older firmware. I have moved from android to ios. On ios my first step was to move fitbit account to google account so I did. Then I erased my Sense 2 and Aria Air from that account. Then synced Sense 2 properly. But when syncing Aria Air I did it quickly. I think it was in ota mode without properly reseting it from android device. I have paired it with ios in that way but it did went with something went wrong. But it was in my list of synced devices. It did not work. From that time I have removed it from synced devices. Properly cleared Aria Air. Updated firmware. Removed batteries. Every little thing multiple times but it all ended up in something went wrong. So I think scale is not properly cleared from system or something got messed up in scale itself from pairing it in that ota mode. Hope this will help.

I did create second google account and synced it but it did recognize it at last synced date when it showed up in my devices after ending in same something went wrong.

It's not you or your devices. Google and the App do not work together
leading the scales to fail. Fitbit have known of this problem for at least
three months, and even though a major release of the App was made 2 weeks
ago, the problem is still not fixed. Fitbit are not responding to calls for
information or to revert to allowing users to use a Fitbit account until the
problem is fixed. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

So I have had my aria air for 10 months. It worked great for 6 months. Then google had us change our Fitbit login to be google login. Ever since,  my “smart” scale turned into a stupid scale- if I want my weight recorded to fitbit app, I have to do it myself. I had a digital scale prior to buying the aria air and it worked great but I had to record the weight myself- now I am sorry I “upgraded” and got rid of the digital scale. That scale at least did what it was advertised to do.
I consider this to be a major defect. My scale is still under  warranty. Will fitbit take this scale back and refund my money? Or is this scale just going to be discontinued since fitbit can’t seem to fix this? Why in the world wouldn’t this have been tested prior to changing to google login so it didn’t affect the aria air users?

I think they will take it back if you bought directly from them.

I gave up on my Aria Air completely now and don't even bother trying anything new... they're just a useless waste of money.
I have a set of INSmart scales that have their own app and that app connects to my fitbit app so I can actually have my weight sent to the fitbit app and it records it fine.
It's worth looking, if you have an older set of smart scales if the app for it connects to fitbit. It'll be easier than manuallt recording your weight.

The other issue I have, right now, is why this thread is listed as 'solved' or 'answered..? It clearly isnlt.

They are trying to say why all those integration when you can manually input no more than 5 digits.

I will make it work with or without Aria Air.

What is your opinion about making more trash.

I just bought a INSMART scale on Amazon for 16.00, it does have its own app but syncs perfectly with Fitbit. Someone on this thread had said they had one. It works great and does measure many other things

I bought the aria air from amazon & bought the ASURION 3 Year Personal Care Protection Plan. Sounds like if google doesn’t fix the syncing issue by the time the manufacturer’s warranty runs out, I can file a claim with them because the device doesn’t work as advertised & I will be able to get my money back.

You have a good point. I step on the scale…don’t need the app or my cell…if my weight changes…just 2 or 3 keystrokes…lot easier…can live with that…Aria doesn’t give you any other info anyway (in spite of what claim ☹️). My complaint…Google’s stonewalling, false advertising selling something that doesn’t work…can’t think of a better way to resolve things than to return the $50 Aria to WalMart within the 90 day window…leave in their hands to respond to their loss to Google and buy a $25 one that works…e.g. Wyze with a whole array of metrics. Google exposing themselves for what they are…
