Aria can't connect to my new wifi

I recently had to change out my wifi router.  It is the exact same type as my previous router that was connected to the scale but for some reason this scale will not connect to the new router.  Oh it was a nightmare connecting the scale to the first wifi as well, but I am over it.  !!!!! I have been trying for three days.  Shame on you fitbit for putting out such subpar material.  some one needs to tell me how to fit this setup or I want my money back.  My scale is saying that it has detected the networks but my network does not appear to connect to it.  I should have bought a Withings scale. uggh.

It is very, very, very frustrating.  I'm having the same problems.  I'm a techy guy and usually can dig around on forums and try enough different variables to get things working but not in this case.

Each weird corner of the internet I find turns up a new potential solution.  When I try that solution, it returns the exact same result: failure and error. I tried 2 dirrent PC's with different browsers, deleted cache, tried with two phones, different browsers also on the Phone and Tab, rebooted my router, I triend about everything BUT Still wifi errors 😞 😞

If you read the amount of connection error's of the Aria here, it's a wonder they are still sold?

This is what fixed the issue.

"We have looked into the make of your router and it appears you may need to
make some changes to your network settings before you will be able to
connect your scale. Your router supports higher speeds, but will need a
channel, preferably 1 or 11, to be set aside for the Aria to connect as it
operates on a lower frequency. You may want to bring your scale closer to
your router during the setup process.

If you haven't do so yet, you will need to assign a unique SSID channel to
connect your scale as it uses 802.11b frequency to communicate. The Aria
connects to your network via 2.4GHz and should be set to a lower channel in
relation to the other, the speed for this channel should be set to "up to
54mbps"."

Why they choose to use that unsecure channel. who knows.

Thanks!

I tried this with no luck, I had chosen for a different channel (channel 😎 on 2.4Ghz but the Aria worked on that custom channel! I tried channel 1 and 11 also. I have my own Internet Cloud Hosting Company and know a lot about Networks.

The strange thing is that it worked fine for three months with no problem 100 feet from the router, I was on the scale every day ones. I did not change anything, I even double checked my router firmware, but my updates are manually so also this did not change. Why suddenly this problem? The batteries where full the scale was only three monts old. And it would be very strange if the Aria only worked on channel 1 or 11, lots of people in the Netherlands have their providers set this based on their surrounding signals.

"Normal users do not know this, they even do not know how to connect to their router. This should also not be necessary IMHO. All my other 20+ Wi-Fi devices are working perfectly al day all year long 😉 The Aria should also work with a normal good 2.4Ghz Wi-Fi signal. You should NOT have be a Network specialist to re-set your router to get a scale to work, again IMHO ...

PS: I have Three different SSID's set, one (with it's own name) on 2,4Ghz, One (with it own name) on 5Ghz, and one with limmited access for guest. I use all three SSID's in the house, some do not support 5Ghz and connect to the 2.4Ghz SSID. As I said this works fine for all the wi-fi devices, TV's, Tabs, Labtops, Computers, Alarm, Doorbell, Phones etc.. etc.. even my dashcam! 😉

I agree 100%! I'm in IT so it wasn't an issue for me, but this would have
to be impossible for the average user.

Well this is my 1st experiance of fitbit and not a good one

3 hours and multiple setup - Aria not set up (yesterday)

3 hours and changing scales and also wifi settings and guess what Aria not set up.

FITBIT why are you not taking notice of your consumers?

Spoke to a customer service person today who proceeded to tell me i am wrong when infact the instructions that are given are incomplete (take battery out nd replace after 10 seconds - no mention of having to tap the scales, no mention of having to change router settings)

the agent was also rude.

i would appreciate a answer to determine why it wont connect?

all other devices do!!!

or do i need to go to a company whos products work (garmin, Apple ect)

thank you

I am going crazy! Changed my wifi network and can't get my Aria connected to it. I can get the Aria in to setup mode but can't find where to look for Aria on my phone to change to the new network. Please help!

I also changed my router and even after taking the batteries out for 10 mins, the aria doesn't go into setup mode. How did you get into setup mode?

Make sure the scale is within 10 ft of router physically during set up.
Then you can move it elsewhere.

I second that comment. This is a HORRIBLE HORRIBLE FAIL on FITBITS part. The scale's WIFI Interface hardware/software is PURE GARBAGE. PLEASE TELL YOUR FRIENDS NOT TO BUY!

I spoke to Fitbit support today, and the solution for me was so simple it made me cry.

The answer to allow the Aria to reconnect to a new WiFi network is actually to delete the Aria users from your account which has the effect of 'un-pairing' your Aria which will then allow it to connect to a new WiFi network. Please note that this operation is NOT possible via the IOS or Android mobile apps which do not have this functionality, so it has to be done via a browser on the Fitbit web site by logging into your account.

Just login and enter settings. Select your Aria from your device list and then click the 'x' against each and all users of the scale. When the list is empty, your aria should be removed from your device list automatically.

At this point you can then run the normal setup procedure to add a new Aria, which will take you through the process of logging onto your Aria itself via WiFi, and connecting it to your house WiFi again.

This worked flawlessly for me with NO special WiFi settings. I only have an alphanumeric WiFi passcode on my router so you may need this but I don't think it matters.

I also didn't have to disable ANY security settings at all, it just works.

You will not lose any previously synchronised weight measurements.

Until I did this - my Aria was flatly refusing to connect at all despite trying all the suggested 'solutions' I could find on the community forum.

Please let me know if it helps you!

Hey guys @lnonog @BerArtVD @WayDon01 @iceskater222 @jeffl910 @joanmarie789 @noargos! If you're getting this wifi err when setting up your scale, I would recommend which is the Protocol that your router uses. The Aria scale works with the Protocol 802.11b and some other routers run the protocol 802.11n or 802.11g. If you don't know which is the protocol that your router uses, you can get in touch with your service provided an they can check on this for you.

Some of my friends have found some workarounds to connect the Aria, too. Check them:

Yes, but it shouldn't take 3 days to setup a simple scale.  I'm having the same issue AGAIN where the scale is failing to join the WIFI network, even though everything  is the same.  The community is right to say "shame on you fitbit".  Your customer service directly has been admirable, but when I find my scale hasn't synced since middle of July, that's not good.

Part of the problem I think is my laptop connects to the wifi router.  But when I say "connect" to the Aria scale, it disconnects my 2.4 Ghz connection.  I put the MAC in the passthrough router table, but that doesn't seem to help either.  This is definitely a problem that needs to be fixed.  Again, I'm not sure what the memory of the scale is, but I may (or already) lose 60 days+ of data.

The community will love this.  So I break out the old scale that Fitbit replaced for me because it seems there is major memory leak with the scales.  I turned it on and it still showed my OLD router network!!  However, I went through the setup from the URL, NOT reinstalling the software and named the scale the same "HouseScale" and it suddenly linked.  Don't ask me how.  So I said, let's try the new scale again and make sure it sees the named network.  I named the scale "NewScale" and it too linked up to the Wifi.  What did I (we) learn from this.  I think while t/s wifi back in July, I changed the network names to ID both the 2.4 and 5 GHz.  This is what probably led to the unsyncing, but there is no good fitbit error displays that would even indicate this.  If fact, fitbit would do itself well to develop  much better error indiicators and descriptions.  So making sure the network name is correct, the network password is correct and verified.  Again, I still empathize with the community regarding the setup of these products.  BTW, how do I see the data up to the loss of sync back in July?

I have been trying for days and I refused to change my password on my router, hell it took days to get all my equipment updated to the new router. So what I did was setup a hotspot on my phone that I turn on when I want to weigh myself. I believe this to be ridiculous but the alternative is not an option. I have owned all types of Fitbit equipment over the years and am stunned this has not been resolved. Next time my fitbit breaks it may be time to explore alternative fit equipment.
