Does the Inspire inspire? Motivational Monday 2/24/20

As I was working on a little project for the community around the Inspire tracker, it got me thinking: Does the Inspire inspire?

We all know that inspiration leads to motivation which leads to action. Well, at least for most that is the path taken. We see something or read something that inspires us, which creates motivation to change that thing and we take some action to facilitate the inspiration. So do people with trackers get inspired and motivated to create fitness goals as a result of the tracker or do people get the tracker to track their motivational actions? Chicken, egg, horse, cart? Or something a little in between?

Six years ago this March, my inspiration to change my life came from a combination of sadness, unhealthy habits and weighing more than my husband. My motivation came from a 4 o'clock phone call from my doctor that said not only is my blood pressure still an issue, but now my cholesterol is outta control. My action was to completely change my relationship with food, activity and the people around me. I got up, I got out and I never looked back. I didn't have a Fitbit, all I had was a firm belief that most things I couldn't change- but I could change myself.

Two years later I became a Fitbit fan. I had already adopted fitness, I already ate a lean nutritious diet but I never knew in numbers what all that meant. Not being a data driven person, I wasn't sure if I needed or wanted to know.. turns out I sure did.  I had numbers and statistics and goals attached to things I was already doing. The things I did were always real of course- but now they were REAL. My inspiration, motivation came from a time in my life that was a little dark. Who knows where my actions would be today had Fitbit not been part of my data story telling. I would like to think that I would still be 6 years strong and going, but maybe the real data- the visual aspect of my effort- helps to keep the inspiration and motivation going.

I guess the moral of this story is- find your inspiration- let it motivate you- to take action.

Love learning more about your personal story @emili! It's really inspiring to me that you made a decision and didn't look back. It's so easy for commitments to fall through and it sounds like you've really stuck to that goal and vision.

Excellent, thank you for sharing your story @emili

It's great to see how you decided to change your lifestyle completely and develop more healthy habits.

As you mentioned, sometimes inspiration and motivation come from a dark place, but they are key to succeed. 😀
