2700 calories burned overnight not wearing the watch

I don't wear my fit bit for bed and when I woke this morning it said I've burned 2700 calories in my sleep! I know it estimates overnight but 2700 from midnight to 7am seems a bit steep! Any advice?

Hi, @pixietrix, your Fitbit account will estimate your BMR calories (calories burnt running bodily functions) whether or not you are wearing your Fitbit.  These are estimated based on the personal details from your account: gender, age, height, weight.

It will add to these BMR calories any calories detected from activities.  You do not say whether your Blaze detected "steps" while you weren't wearing it.  If it did, that could add to your BMR calorie burn.  For example, if you place your Fitbit next to a source of vibration (perhaps a fan) it can detect many thousands of false steps.

So I would suggest checking your overnight step count and also checking that your personal details are correct, including your units (for example make sure if you entered your weight in pounds the unit is pounds and not kgs -- same for height).

I hope this helps.  Welcome to the Community!

Hello Julia, thanks for getting back to me.

I understand that it calculated BMR when i'm not wearing it so i expected to see some and it's usually around 500 but today there  were waaaay too many.

There are no steps recorded and my weight and height are both recorded correctly, the only thing recorded was the 2700 calories!

Hi, @pixietrix, that's very odd if no activity was recorded.  The first troubleshooting step is usually to give your Fitbit a restart.  I would also recommend making sure you have the latest version of the app, and also logging out and logging back in again.

After that I think it is a matter of seeing if it happens again, and if so, posting again with screen shots if possible so someone can try to work out what is going on.

I, too, have had this happen, several times very recently - overnight/today,  5/7/17, and the first time on 4/21/17 and again on 4/22/17.  My Blaze was nowhere near a vibrating device, in fact I did not wear it during the night.  It was either on my bedside table or in a drawer every .  There is no way I could burn 3889 calories in a day unless I was training for the Olympics!  I got my Fitbit in September of 2016.  I believe there was an update pushed out in April, was there not?  The problem started then.
