Active Minutes don't match up

Hi all

I have a question that has been bugging me and would appreciate any input.

Me and my friend go on a walk together every morning before work to get our steps in, but for some reason she always gets about 8/10 more active minutes than I do. I am surprised by this bearing in mind I am considerably heavier than her and she does a lot more walking than I do, so I would presume, if anything, it would be the other way around. Why might this be please?

Thank you very much in advance!

Sam

Hi, @slinturn1, active minutes are awarded when the Blaze detects (using your heartrate data) that you are burning calories at least 3 times your BMR calorie burn rate (BMR calories, as you probably know, are calories your body burns just staying alive).  If you are significantly heavier than she is you will have a higher BMR.  So even though it takes more energy for you to move your body (and you are less fit) you may not be quite getting to 3 times your BMR.  Try walking a little bit faster and see if you can pick up the same number of active minutes.

I hope this makes sense.  Welcome to the forums!

I have a question about regular walking steps vs Tread mill steps. I've set & measured my step. I've confirmed its accurate as I've measured the distance I've walked compared to driving in my vehicle. When I use the treadmill at the gym the traedmill and My Device (one, Charge HR & now a Blaze) have never been close to the same, usually off by something close to like 30%. I never really cared as I did the work but am now tracking my distances in a journal and would like to count on this device to be accurate. Just this morning I walked an 61.46min at 16:40 av pace which registered 3.46 miles. My Blaze only registered 6352 steps & 2.13 mi. Can someone explain these differences & is there a way to increase the Blazes accuracy on a tradmill?
