Best way to track weight lifting and boxing/heavybag?

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Hi,

I just got a fitbit last night and have been searching for the best answer to the following questions.

1: When weigh lifting should you select it first from the blaze before workout and thats all there is to it?

2: For heavy bag, boxing/kickboxing workouts is it better to wear the blaze and enter it as above, or take off the blaze and log it manually?

Also I heard something about the blaze automatically logging these workouts, how does that work or how do you set it up?  Or do you have to let it know each time what your doing?

Thanks

Yep, just start a weight exercise and you are off.

For heavybag, I'm not sure what the best method is. You could see if it would auto recognize exercise or just select Workout when you begin.

I wouldn't take it off unless it messes with any gloves that you might wear. Have to keep loggin that data =D

Sadly with bag work I and many others find the Fitbit Blaze constantly ends the exercise on it's own.  I'm about ready to return mine because it is so terrible at this activity.  Too bad as I was really enjoying the rest of the features.  Maybe you'll have better luck than most.

My first 2 attemps so far ive gotten away with it.  But im using MMA gloves so the strap is not so obnoxious, i put the fitbit further up my arm and the glove tend to go under it instead of engaging the buttons.. Has anyone put in an app request to get a feature to disable the buttons?  Maybe for kickboxing/boxing mode?

I do feel like I cant throw full power punches with it on though as im nervous ill break it..

Hello @realizment@rws381 and @MScott67! It's great to have you here. @realizment There are several ways to ensure that your workouts or other calorie-burning activities are calculated in your daily totals and saved in your exercise history.

1. Use multisport mode on your tracker

2. Get GPS data from your tracker or mobile device

3. Let your tracker automatically detect exercise

4. Manually log your exercise or other calorie-burning activity

You can select the method that fits your needs. Also I was reviewing the Feature Request board and found these ideas that are related to what you mention: Touch screen lock for Blaze and Disable Blaze 'Select' Button During Exercise take a moment to vote and add your comments to the idea! The more votes it gets more opportunities it has to be noticed by our developers! 🙂

Catch you later!

Darn. I just ordered one since my work was offering discounts on fitbits. I originally stayed away from any fitness trackers because my workouts consists entirely of Muay Thai and MMA training, I can't imagine taking a hard kick or a punch directly onto the watch...that impact has got to go somewhere lol. I had to pull the trigger this time since it was such a sweet deal. Still very excited test it out though, at least I still get a cool looking smart watch.

I was thinking maybe they could make a choker strap that goes around the neck for people who do contact sports like us? The neck is probably the best place on the body for a device such as this. This would pair up really well with an auto-rotate feature too. I surely wouldn't mind wearing it around my neck for a couple hours during training sessions, plus I think it will actually look really cool as a choker.

Welcome to the Fitbit Community @illuminus! The Fitbit Blaze is a Smart Fitness Watch that will help you record your activities. As with any electronic device a hard impact can cause internal damage. You can add your activity as instructed by @AlvaroFitbit on this post. I was researching the Feature Request board and didn't found an idea related to wearing the tracker on the neck, take a moment to share your idea there and after that share it with your Fitbit Friends, the more votes it gets more opportunities it has to be noticed by our developers.

I'll be around if you have any questions! 😉

I just got the blaze and have been trying to lock my kickboxing class so I select the workout mode. The problem I'm having is that my gloves keep swiping the screen and either stopping the tracking or pausing it. There does not seem to way too long kickboxing in the application real time only to log it after the fact which doesn't seem to make any sense.. the auto detection doesn't seem to pick up the whole entire workout which is frustrating. If you figure out an answer please let me know

Seems to me if you would create a way to lock the screen During certain workouts this would take care of this problem
