Blaze Firmware Release - 17.8.301.4 [Closed]

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

9/23 Update:

See the new firmware thread here

9/22 Update:

For those that have the firmware update already, new clock faces have been re-enabled.

We've continued the rollout process. If you don't yet have the update, please be patient. We'll post updates about the rollout when we have more information.

9/19 Update:

Hey everyone - it seems like we're struggling to maintain civil conversation on this topic, so I'm going to go ahead and lock the thread. We'll open a new thread once the firmware update goes into wider distribution. Until then, here are answers to the questions that keep getting asked here:

When will I be able to download the latest update?

The update is on hold while our team addresses an issue found at the beginning of the release. Once their work is complete, we will start rolling it out again. We generally don't announce specific dates or timeframes, but you will see the update on your dashboard as soon as it is available. The only thing you need to do right now is wait patiently.

Why did you release the latest update to only a small percentage of users?

We've done tons of testing on this new firmware, but there can still be unexpected issues when we release it. If every Blaze customer updated at once, those surprises would affect everyone. Instead, we use an incremental release to observe and address issues on a relatively small scale. We definitely want the best experience possible for our Blaze customers, and a slow, cautious release helps accomplish that goal.

If only 5% of Blaze users have the update now, does that mean 10% will have it next week and 15% will have it the week after? Won't that take forever?

Nope! We aren't moving in 5% increments. We started the release at 5% and will increase it in much larger increments once we are confident that it's good to go. You should receive it soon.

Why haven't you communicated this information to customers?

All this information was previously posted in this thread, and also added to the lead post. Any time you find a discussion of an emerging issue or a newly-released update, make sure to check the first post for the latest information. We aim for clear, concise, transparent, and frequent communication - you should always find what you need in the lead post.

9/15 Update:

The new Blaze update is currently available only to a very small percentage of users, as we are troubleshooting some emerging issues. It will be released more widely soon. Once it is available, you will see a banner at the top of your website or mobile app dashboard. Thanks for your patience!

Hey everyone! Robot Happy

We're rolling out a new update for Blaze, release notes below:

  • In addition to call, text, and calendar event notifications, thirdpartyapps.jpgyou can receive notifications from email and other third-party apps on your tracker.Common emojis also appear. Keep in mind all notifications currently on your tracker will be deleted after the update.
  • You can receive reminders to move throughout the day.
  • Five new clock faces are available. Navigate to your device settings and check them out!

This release also resolves the following issue:

  • Some users reported that auto-brightness was too dim or delayed.

Important to note: A sync is required after a manual shutdown or a battery drain in order to show the correct time on Blaze. This is especially important for your activity tracked by Blaze because you'll want to make sure it's associated with the current date and time.

The initial wave of users will receive the update starting September 12th, 2016, and will eventually be rolled out to everyone within a few days. If the update to the latest firmware version is not yet available for your Blaze, just hang tight!

I am very upset with fitbit right now. I had the update available and I started it but during it is waited over an hour my phone rangot and then the bar went back to nothing. I restarted my phone and when I read opened the app the update was no longer available. I contacted fitbit and they said it was an error that they aren't releasing the update to everyone right now. So I just wasted my time trying to update my fitbit.

Wow. This must be the worst thing that's every happened to you?  Gosh.  We should start to support group this sounds so terrible.

Just to clarify, you wasted your time?

Let's get the pitchforks and burn Fitbit to the ground.  Let's set them.... wait for it... aBlaze.

@Timpub @nickdotvr @MatthewFitbit my Blaze is still constantly rebooting. It's been about 7 hours since I originally tried to update it. I've let the battery on the unit die, recharged it, reset it numerous times, etc. Please let me know if you've found anything else that works or if there's something else I should try! And thanks @MatthewFitbit for your help on this, I appreciate the responses and suggestions. I love my FitBit and hope it works again soon!

No it isn't the worst thing that has ever happened to me. It just really pissed me off and the support at fitbit wasn't helpful which did waste my time to call them and you don't have to be rude. Yes it did waste my time. I started something that was supposed to take 10 min and took over an hour to not update.

Great news! Mine is updating now.

When will we get stronger silent notifications? We have been begging for that on the board for months. The blaze's silent notification is much lighter of a vibrate than any other device. People are returning the blaze due to that and Fitbit will not respond.

New clock faces have been temporarily disabled while we address an update issue. They will return!

If you are having trouble with your tracker or app following the update, please use the website dashboard to select one of the original clock faces and then sync.

@JenCline you did all the right things, I've done the same and now I've surrendered to letting it die (which I wish it would do sooner because the little vibrate every few min is becoming slightly annoying) until I hear there's something that can be done... @clairelaberge has ran into the same thing as have a number of other people in this thread, we just gotta wait & see what's next...

The non-update, recalled update, or whatever you want to call it has screwed up my Blaze, the active minutes, stairs, and steps are all totally inaccurate now.

what ia wrong with this update? I was glad that the update was poped up. I updated it. But after the update, the version #was still same as 200.3 and what has been changed was losing korean menu on fitbit. What I updated was nothing.

I updated yesterday and since then the screen has not worked and the device restarts every few minutes. Support desk couldn't help and all I can do is wait for someone to let me know how to fix it.....I was told to expect an email from Fitbit but nothing yet.

I volunteer to be last in line for this update, since it looks like people's lives depend on getting the update NOW. My blaze has worked flawlessly since I got it, battery time seems to be forever if I charge it while I'm in the shower. Step count ok, floor count also ok (I like that it counts floors when I'm out walking in hills so I can see the impact on my workout.)

Any idea when the update would be generally avaiable? What is the timeline by which everyone gets it? Sorry, I am a new Fitbit user and very excited by these new features being added in the Blaze! Smiley Happy

@muppetman @SunsetRunner Wow really helpful responses!

I've been waiting for an update to my blaze because it has many issues with syncing and, most importantly, I've been waiting 6 months to get reminder to move - one of the main reasons for me choosing the blaze.

Not getting an update quickly isn't the worst thing to happen to somebody but having features like reminder to move could genuinely improve their health.

Why don't you think about that before you shoot someone down.

I thought this was supposed to be a friendly help forum after all?

Hi all,

I haven't updated my Blaze yet, but i was wondering if Windows Mobile users have to wait untill the app is updated before receiving the update?

Also, does this firmware upgrade include notification for Windows Mobile?

Thanks in advance!

I haven't been offered the update yet (I'm in New Zealand) but after reading about the issues so many people have had with the new version, I'll be holding back I think.

I'm sorry if my post offended anyone Smiley Very Happy

But as you can see, there are issues with the firmware, since the clockfaces had to be disabled.

Another thing, six months ago, was "get up and move" even a thing promised to come to the Blaze?

Best Answer

My blaze tracker is not functional from today morning. It is not counting steps, HR and stairs. I restarted twice but of no use. It is responsive to touch and time and date is correct though (atleast!)

Learnt here that update is released but mine is still showing old update and old clock types.

Could someone help me out?

I think that the update will not be released anymore, untill they sorted all the problems out.

I do think their testing is horrible, stuff like this should've been tested thoroughly before releasing to public.

Best Answer

I just don't understand what took them so long to release this update and they didn't even test it by the looks of it?

They should make a public beta testing program so we can help, since they clearly aren't great at testing things
