Blaze Firmware Release - 17.8.301.4 [Closed]

9/23 Update:

See the new firmware thread here

9/22 Update:

For those that have the firmware update already, new clock faces have been re-enabled.

We've continued the rollout process. If you don't yet have the update, please be patient. We'll post updates about the rollout when we have more information.

9/19 Update:

Hey everyone - it seems like we're struggling to maintain civil conversation on this topic, so I'm going to go ahead and lock the thread. We'll open a new thread once the firmware update goes into wider distribution. Until then, here are answers to the questions that keep getting asked here:

When will I be able to download the latest update?

The update is on hold while our team addresses an issue found at the beginning of the release. Once their work is complete, we will start rolling it out again. We generally don't announce specific dates or timeframes, but you will see the update on your dashboard as soon as it is available. The only thing you need to do right now is wait patiently.

Why did you release the latest update to only a small percentage of users?

We've done tons of testing on this new firmware, but there can still be unexpected issues when we release it. If every Blaze customer updated at once, those surprises would affect everyone. Instead, we use an incremental release to observe and address issues on a relatively small scale. We definitely want the best experience possible for our Blaze customers, and a slow, cautious release helps accomplish that goal.

If only 5% of Blaze users have the update now, does that mean 10% will have it next week and 15% will have it the week after? Won't that take forever?

Nope! We aren't moving in 5% increments. We started the release at 5% and will increase it in much larger increments once we are confident that it's good to go. You should receive it soon.

Why haven't you communicated this information to customers?

All this information was previously posted in this thread, and also added to the lead post. Any time you find a discussion of an emerging issue or a newly-released update, make sure to check the first post for the latest information. We aim for clear, concise, transparent, and frequent communication - you should always find what you need in the lead post.

9/15 Update:

The new Blaze update is currently available only to a very small percentage of users, as we are troubleshooting some emerging issues. It will be released more widely soon. Once it is available, you will see a banner at the top of your website or mobile app dashboard. Thanks for your patience!

Hey everyone! Robot Happy

We're rolling out a new update for Blaze, release notes below:

  • In addition to call, text, and calendar event notifications, thirdpartyapps.jpgyou can receive notifications from email and other third-party apps on your tracker.Common emojis also appear. Keep in mind all notifications currently on your tracker will be deleted after the update.
  • You can receive reminders to move throughout the day.
  • Five new clock faces are available. Navigate to your device settings and check them out!

This release also resolves the following issue:

  • Some users reported that auto-brightness was too dim or delayed.

Important to note: A sync is required after a manual shutdown or a battery drain in order to show the correct time on Blaze. This is especially important for your activity tracked by Blaze because you'll want to make sure it's associated with the current date and time.

The initial wave of users will receive the update starting September 12th, 2016, and will eventually be rolled out to everyone within a few days. If the update to the latest firmware version is not yet available for your Blaze, just hang tight!

@PieMavi, the update is NOT being released regionally.  It is being released to all users world wide in small waves, so as not to overwhelm servers.  It will take a few more days to get to all users.

@Travinator, see above!  You will get the update, but it may take a few more days.

Also please note that the new clock faces have been TEMPORARILY removed while some issues are being investigated.  They will be back ASAP.

Edited to add: caps added for emphasis -- not meaning to shout or cause offense!

@Julia_G can YOU calm DOWN?!

If FitBit realizes its poor internet bandwidth in releasing the firmware update, why not trying to distribute the firmware update via several means such as Android APK file, Windows .EXE file, etc., so that many software download websites, web torrent, cloud storage etc. could store it for public. Users also can easily share it via social network.

Hi, @CAPTN_JONNY, I'm definitely very calm.  Waiting patiently for my update.  I put 3 words in capital letters only for emphasis because the same question has been asked and answered at least half a dozen times above.  I was hoping for those still wondering that their eyes would be drawn to those 3 words and their question would be quickly answered.

Apologies if you found those 3 words a little over-excited.  I certainly didn't mean to shout!

@PieMavi Technically, it hasn't been released in America yet. I live in America and still haven't received an update.

@AndrewFitbit - Will the new update go through to my Blaze via the Windows App or will I need to synchronize my Blaze with my iPhone 6 again?

It's not even fully released in the US. I don't have the update yet.

Why does the update take hours and counting... and it's not even half way!!!!!!!!

Sometimes if an update is taking a long time it could be due to your
Internet speed or... The Fitbit developers wanted to make sure the update
went through aright and released a larger file. I am jealous you received
the Blaze firmware before me. Please let me know your thoughts on the newly
released features. I bought the Alta just the feature of 250 steps per hour
and the move reminders. I returned it after three weeks back to Costco for
a full refund and continued using the Blaze smartwatch - my favorite
fitness tracker in the last four years!!!!

Hey everyone,

If you haven't already, check out yesterday's post from @MatthewFitbit where he addresses a lot of questions and concerns.

Just to re-emphasize a few of Matthew's points:

- The update is currently at 5% of randomly selected Blaze users. Region is not a factor.

- New clock faces have been turned off for everyone, even if you have the latest firmware update. The new clocks will be turned back on soon when the update is available for 100% of users.

- If you have a separate issue unrelated to the firmware update (e.g. accuracy, GPS, etc.) please post in a relevant thread or create a new topic if you're unable to find one.

Thanks!

@herget, I really liking the new features. The way the reminder to move has been implemented, you can see any time where you are at for tha hour so it encourages me to get it done earlier in the hour unless I am working and then I get the reminder. The notifications are really nice too. I have added a few and they work well.

Mine updated in less than 15 minutes but I was lucky to be able to do so earlier the first day.

If the Blaze update has reached 5% of users over the last 2 and a half to 3 days, that means we have 40 to 60 days before it reaches 100%.  That is, unless the pace picks up.  To me, a few days is 3 to 5 - and a few days is what you told us it would take to get to all users.  At the current pace, you'd be lucky to reach everyone in a few weeks.  How about you guys tell us the plan, understanding that we know plans can change?  What you've told us isn't turning out to be accurate anyway, so what's the harm in telling us what you know?  Thanks.

If we are only at 5% after 3 days will we get to 100% in the next 3 weeks? Just wondering why only 5% in 3 days. Are you going to accelerate the update schedule any or should I really guess I am still weeks out?

@aprazman @Kawaiikoneko2 @Fitnesslarry Sorry, I should have been more clear what I meant by reaching 100% of users. That just means that as soon as we make the update available to everyone (not that everyone has to download it), then the clock faces will be turned back on. I don't have an exact date, but "soon" in this context should mean within a week or so.
