Blaze Heart rate when running

Hi

I've tried looking around the forums but really I am struggling to find an answer.

I'm marathon training which is heavily dependent on pace running and heart rate. Though no matter the pace I'm getting a reading of 147-160 max.

The paces I've used so far vary from 6.50 brisk to 8.20 easy per mile

I'm not sure if the fact that my stride length varying over these paces has any effect after reading that it will estimate your heart rate as the fitbit struggles to calculate my pace particularly on the faster runs.

Any help is appreciated

Regards

Hi there @fox566. Great to see you in the Community Forums! 🙂

If your Blaze is not giving you a correct heart rate reading, I can recommend to first restart your tracker. You can easily do this by pressing the left and lower right buttons for 10-12 seconds. This will make your tracker to reboot.

Once you've done this, keep in mind a few things when exercising to ensure that you will get the most accurate readings from it:

  1. Experiment with wearing the device higher on your wrist during exercise for an improved fit and more accurate heart-rate reading. Many exercises such as bike riding or weight lifting cause you to bend your wrist frequently, which could interfere with the heart-rate signal if the watch is lower on your wrist.

  2. Make sure the device is in contact with your skin.
  3. Do not wear your device too tight; a tight band restricts blood flow, potentially affecting the heart-rate signal. That being said, the device should also be slightly tighter (snug but not constricting) during exercise than during all-day wear.
  4. With high-intensity interval training, P90X, boxing, or other activities where your wrist is moving vigorously and non-rhythmically, the movement may prevent the sensor from finding an accurate heart rate. Similarly, with exercises such as weight lifting or rowing, your wrist muscles may flex in such a way that the band tightens and loosens during exercise. Try relaxing your wrist and staying still briefly (about 10 seconds), after which you should see an accurate heart-rate reading. Note that your device will still provide accurate calorie burn readings during these types of exercise by analyzing your heart rate trends over the course of the workout.

Hope this helps and let me know if you seem to have the same problems. Anything else, I'm here to help!

Thanks

It appears the issue is more when i pick up into higher speeds and there isn't anything I can do about it. Frustrating but it seems to be the wrist heart rate monitoring.

Works fine for cycling
