Blaze NOT recording cycling activity accurately

ANSWERED

In the past year and a half, Blaze occasionally mis-recorded cycling activities. Lately however, the inaccuracy has been more frequent. Twice in the past week, Blaze failed to record cycling activities accurately. I use an Android device for GPS connection. Both miles and speed are off. Route on the map is erratic. Can't rely on Blaze to capture accurate data!

Thank you.

It's great to see you around @StayinHealthy. Could you please tell me how you log your activity? Are you using SmarTrack or are you selecting the activity directly from your Blaze? Since if you are doing this directly from the tracker, I recommend trying to use SmarTrack, since this is a feature that will automatically recognize your activity.

Thank you for the reply.

Unfortunately, I don't see an option for cycling using the smar tracker option. How can I add cycling?

Don't worry @StayinHealthy, to add a shortcut to your Blaze, you just need to do the following from your Android Fitbit app:

1. Tap the Blaze icon in the upper right corner

2. Slide down and tap Exercise Shortcuts

3. Tap the "+" icon

4. Select the exercises you want to see on your Blaze

5. Tap Add to Blaze

6. Sync

Bike is one of the exercises under Exercise Shortcuts, but only Run, Walk and Hike are available within the Track section. And when I click the gear icon on the Smart Track screen, Bike is not one of the Auto Recognized Exercises!

Good morning @StayinHealthy, well it is for me.

Yes only run, walk, and hike are available through the app. From the same page tap the settings gear at the top, there should be an event titled outdoor bike.

@StayinHealthy understand you want a map/mileage/speed. Some of the suggestions being given are leading you down a path where you will not get map/mileage/speed. Given that, wanted you to understand the following:

SmartTrack: will not record map or distance or speed because it doesn't use GPS. It only records duration and calories. It is also hit or miss, mostly hit but its not 100%. Avoid using if you want map/mileage/speed.

Fitbit app: as you discovered the "MobileRun" feature only records run, walk, or hike. Avoid using if you want map/mileage/speed. It might be possible to use run for bike rides, but why do you have a Blaze? Honestly if you carry phone most of the time, probably better off just using phone as Fitbit tracker which is what I do and then use Strava to record rides and sync to Fitbit (however your map will only be in Strava, because Fitbit doesn't allow importing GPS or HR).

Blaze: Recording the bike ride directly on your Blaze is what you want, using Connected GPS, but seems it is hit or miss. Sounds like it usually works, with some annoyances, which unfortunately is not uncommon. Thats why I use a bike computer and/or app like Strava or RideWithGPS on my phone. I recommend you review the help instructions again:

Hope that helps.

I have encountered this issue as well and it is very annoying! I looked at SmartTrack and "it does not capture GPS."  My question is why all of a sudden is this happening and how can my Blaze function as advertised?

Smarttrack will never use GPS, by the time Fitbit has figured out that your on the bike it is to late to connect the Blaze to the phones gps.

If you want to track your rides with the GPS you will need to use the multisport, mode and manually tell the Blaze by putting it in bike mode.

Rich, I use the multisport mode, manually select bike and only get data for heart rate and calories. My wife's Blaze is configured exactly the same and she gets all data fields as well as mapping of the route riden.

@RJZ do you carry your phone with you, and make sure the Blaze has connected to the phones GPS?

Apparently you wife's Blaze has been getting GPS data and your of not.

Do you have your bike ride set to use GPS?
