I'm looking into getting a touchscreen tracker, and accurate distance tracking is important. I don't like to run with my phone, I'm afraid I might drop it. I recently bought a smartphone that I keep without service to use as a backup ipod. I've seen that GPS chips in phones work even without service. Has anyone else tried this to track distance with the Blaze. If it doesn't work I'll probably get a Garmin with built-in GPS.

Hi, @chaseinillinois, this is exactly what I do -- I have a Windows Phone and connected GPS is not supported so I use a cheap, spare Android with no SIM to connect to the Blaze. It works perfectly. The only limitation I have found is that you do need to have wifi to make the initial connection, so I have to make sure that I connect the Blaze to the phone before I go. This does mean I have to start from somewhere with data or wifi. If there is too long a gap between connecting the phone and starting the run/walk/bike the Blaze will disconnect and then the GPS element won't work.
I hope this makes sense! Welcome to the forums.
