Blaze and the GPS

I love my Charge HR, but have decided to upgrade (sidegrade? lol) to a new Blaze that will be arriving this next Tuesday. On the Charge HR, I'm used to using my phone's GPS to track walks, and the session is started from the App. I like that setup because the app rocks. Question: I notice that on the Blaze, GPS can be started from the tracker itself. However, can it alternately be started from the app?

@tractorlegs, sadly not immediate, as 4mins elapsed, but I'll accept prompt. 😀

Sure you can use the app to track your route, in this case it is the app that is doing the tracking. Nothing has changed here.

Now when using the connected GPS of the Blaze, it is the Blaze that is doing the tracking, not the app.

The outcome is the same, you still get all the map data of the route.

I use my blaze for running and usually just hit "run" on the activity tracker. It never logs the gps. Do I need to have the app open on the phone for this? I tried on a run tonight (tracked on both phone and on blaze) and now think I may have double-logged the run. How should I be doing this?

Do you have GPS turned on on the Blaze? If you tap the little gear on the run screen before you start, make sure it is turned on. When you tap run, it should say it is connecting to your phone. It will show the signal strength once linked so I usually wait to go until I have green bars. Tap play when ready and you should be good to go. I believe you need to have the Fitbit app open in the background at least on your phone but it is pretty seamless when you do.

No @Eezeetiger you don't need the app open or running, but you need notifacations running. Swipe down the notifacation bar and check for an entry that says Fitbit Notifacations are running.
