I don't have a Surge so I don't know how this works. Would you simply choose walk or an activity once you start the gps on your phone?

Hello @Tori8150,
Welcome to the community!
The Surge has multiple options for runs:
There may be more, but treadmill is normally as far as I get. Do you normally walk or run on the treadmill. I don't remember if there are similar options for walk.

On the Surge "walk" is found under "exercise". If you choose that it automatically launches GPS, so it seems likely that the Blaze will work similarly. (But many people choose the "run" option on the Surge, even when they are walking, because "walk" will not give you alerts when you have done a mile. Even though I am walking, I like to know my pace... Again, I am guessing that the Blaze will work in a similar way.).
Treadmill walk is not an option, so again, you would choose "run".

I have the Charge HR. I'm confused what to use on the treadmill even with that. Lately it knows when I'm on the elliptical or treadmill. Sometimes it thinks I'm on the elliptical when I'm on the treadmill. Sometimes I hit the button. Next time I might try the GPS on the app. Ugh.

Hi, @Tori8150 , GPS won't work because it is used for tracking movements out of doors.
You have 3 options for tracking you treadmill walks/runs using the Charge HR.
1. You can do nothing at all, and SmartTrack (as long as it is enabled and you are on the treadmill for at least 10 minutes) will automatically track it for you. If it gets the wrong activity, you can rename it.
2. At the start of your workout you can press and hold the button until you see a stopwatch icon. Press and hold at the end until you see a finishing flag icon. It will sync to your activity log as a "workout" and you can rename it. Use this option if you want to see distance (make sure you rename the activity as "run" or "walk" for the distance data to show.
3. Do nothing, and at the end of your treadmill session log it manually. Info on how to do that here . Your manual log will overwrite (hide) anything your tracker detected at the same time period, so you won't get double stats... Use this method if you find that your steps are not being accurately counted when you are on the treadmill (this often happens if you use the treadmill hanging on to the sides). Be aware that steps logged this way will not count in your friend leaderboard or for challenges.
So really it is a matter of which method works best for YOU and which method gives you the information you find most helpful.
Shout if any of this isn't clear.

okay! Hopefully only a month until I get my Blaze. I'm glad I didn't get the Surge. I always have my phone close since I have wireless earbuds.

I thought this tread was about the New Blaze and Treadmill functionality.
I would really like to know if the new Blaze will have a treadmill run option just like the surge? No manual run entries or smart detection of an activity. Will you be able to select "run", then "treadmill run" or something to that effect.
Thank you

You can have up to 7 exercise shortcuts on your Blaze, and treadmill is an option.

With the Treadmill option on the Blaze, are you able to track distance and pace?

@Subotai_AT Great question!
Pace/distance will remain exlusive to the GPS activities (walk, hike, run, bike).

I noticed under the exercise shortcuts (where you can choose up to 7 options) that one of this options is "workout". would this be used when you're doing multiple activities ie: circuits of treadmill as well as weights? or would you manually have to switch between options as you go through circuits?

Thank you that's helpful! I was just wondering because they had run, treadmill, elliptical, spinning etc. and then just 'workout' so I wasn't sure and couldn't find an explanation anywhere.

Once the workout is done you can change it to any title you like (well, almost any title), as it is a selection from list. You cannot title is something that is not in the list they have, but you can change it to "tennis" or "volleyball" within the app or on your computer dashboard. The old models did not not give you an option to select prior to starting, you just started the workout and when you sync'd it would title it workout for all.
Then they added the automatic recording of workout which are customizable based on time you want to record. The default for the ChargeHR was 15 minutes of walk, 15 minutes of cardio, 15 minutes of run. I changed the run to 10 minutes for me.
Either way, when you start the workout on your own it does have a 5 minute minimum to record.

Oh, I did not realize those are customizable. So I can add up to 7 of the types I use most often? Thanks!

Yes, you can customize it to the 7 types you use the most as long as they are on the list of excercise's.
