I don't have a Surge so I don't know how this works.  Would you simply choose walk or an activity once you start the gps on your phone?

@racertempo, actually you can create your own custom activities, so in fact you can have names of workouts not in the list. I hope this helps!

This must be new for the blaze, becasue you cannot name your workout something unless it is in the fitbit list of workouts.  IN another thread someone noted that the exercise name had to be one of the fitbit populated ones, here is what he said:

"@racertempo

Yes, you can customize it to the 7 types you use the most as long as they are on the list of excercise's."

Have you named an exercise something not from the fitbit list?

Hi, @racertempo , this is not new for the Blaze. You cannot create an exercise shortcut except from the list Fitbit has built in, but for all trackers you can create custom activities. If you use the exercise shortcut "workout" you can then rename the activity anything you like.

You cannot do this from the phone though, I did see where you can add a custom activity on the dashboard, but will that carry over to the phone?  Or do you have to change it on the website every time?
From what I see after adding Slimfit on the website, the phone recognized that one workout name that I changed, but it will not allow me to change others from the phone directly (using the name slimfit).

Even going back to the website, when I tried to enter Slimfit for a sifferent workout it asked me to add a custom workout again.  So have clicked "add activity" on three different workouts now, and it is not remembering it.  You can see below that I added Slimfit to the name to 2 at the top, but then it does not save it to find it later.

Not very helpful or useful at all, especially since I cannot do it from the phone directly.

Either way, folks have said that to customize the Blaze workout selections it needs to be from list provided by fitbit, which is good becasue it keeps me form having to change it on the phone afterwards.

I know I should wait until it is in my hot little hands, but do you customize on the device or in the software?

Yep!

Here's the list of potential exercises I see on my Dashboard for shortcuts on Blaze:

Tennis and Volleyball are the ones I want to add, is Volleyball on there as well (it is recognized on the app when changing the name of a workout)?  Is that list you show all inclusive or can you add others as well?

@racertempo , you cannot do it on the app, but can on the website. In the picture you have posted, underneath where it says "Oh no, we cannot find a match for your search" you will see you have the option "create a custom activity". Click on that! Furthermore, once you have created that custom activity it will be available to you on your phone app. So if the shortcut you want isn't there, create your custom activity, track your activity as a "workout" and when it is synced, rename it using your custom activity.

Julia, my point in showing that picture was that if you look at the top 2 workouts in my list you see Slimfit, which I added 2 separate times.  Then trying to add Slimfit again it did not recognize it.  So every single time I had to "create a custom activity".

Also, once synced it does show on my app, but it does not remember Slimfit and will not allow me to rename it using that name, which is what the first picture shows.  I had already "added Slimfit" as a custom activity, and done a sync......the app showed the 2 new labels as Slimfit because they were changed on the computer, but when trying to change a different workout on the app to Slimfit I got what you see on first picture.  It just does not recognize it.

SO basically, you have to "create a custom" every single time, not worth the hassle.

That's odd!  it works fine for me... Have you tried creating your custom activity using the activity box on the right?  Where it says "activities" and at the bottom there is the option to click "create custom activity".  I think that is how I have always done it.

I like the idea, I will check this out as well now, thanks for all the ideas here.

Nope, so on the bottom right where it has 'create custom activity' under the list of 'favorites' and 'most logged', I added Slimfit, but that then wanted info on the left.  I added it, like I was adding the workout.  After a sync with the phone the workout showed up with the Slimfit name, but it still will not recognize the slimfit name in the app or on the website.

Something tells me that when I go to Excercise, it says "No exercises. Set up Excercise shortcuts using the webpage or app". It happened this morning. I can use my Surge as backup.

My exercise shortcuts stopped appearing this morning. If I add them through the Blaze settings on the web dashboard, they disappear again. Does not seem to save it.

Anyone else?

From what I found, the workout one measures your heart rate more accurately than just normal exercise functions, according to a post I read, it also gives time recorded, average heart rate, maximum heart rate, calories burned and steps taken.
