Hi all
my dad has a blaze Fitbit which all of a sudden has stopped working properly, until a few weeks ago it used to last nearly a week in between charges now we are down to 1 1/2 .
I have tried to reboot (I have to do this as he’s a technophobe)
all he wants to do is get the time and check his steps

Thank you for sharing all this information about the Blaze that is not holding a charge for too long and confirming that you already tried to perform the restart procedure.
The battery can last up to 5 days; because battery life is affected by use and other settings, actual results may vary, however, it shouldn't last only 1 day and a half.
Before considering other options, please make sure that you've followed the steps provided in this article: Can I extend my Fitbit device's battery life?
