Blaze charging and initial firmware update taking forever

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Just got my Blaze.  Couldn't figure out how to get it connected to the charger because of the lack of documentation.  I'm not sure I'm digging the requirement to remove the face from the band every time I need to charge it.

I did manage to add it to the fitbit app on my phone and immediately I'm waiting over 30 minutes for a "10 minute" firmware update.  It's 25% done now, so I have that going for me.

Anyone else verify that their update took so long?  Just wanting to ensure whether or not the problem might be with my phone.

Thanks!

Hey Everyone!

Thank you so much for sharing your experience and how much it has take you to complete the update. Here are the requirements that you need in order to properly set your Blaze:

- A good internet connection

- A fully charged tracker, follow this procedure to properly charge it.

- Your tracker needs to be within 15 to 20 feet to the computer or phone

- Your craddle ( When setting up your Blaze, you don't need a Dongle)

When I was setting up my Blaze, it took some time but it was because my internet connection wasn't strong so it was disconnecting and connecting by itself. Please make sure that you're doing this set up procedure.

If it's taking so long to update your tracker's firmware then please restart your tracker and your phone, try again.

Hope this helps. Let me know how it goes.

Is there a reason why we are forced to use bluetooth to update a device that ships with data cables to connect them to computers?

You know how to prevent tranmission errors? You don't transmit them.

i used the windows app to update and that worked really well.  I received mine yesterday.  I too was a bit frustrated trying to connect to my device (Samsung S5) but once the update was done, all has been really great.

I just got my new blaze and it's been updating now for 35 minutes and it's only half complete!

My fully charged Blaze would not update.  I tried for over 4 hours while it said it was updating and then failed over and over again. I restarted both theBlaze and my phone, removed and reinstalled the app and everthing else that I found suggested here and on other threads.  My Blaze will only show the logo screen and nothing else.  From the dashboard when I hit update for the Blaze, it searches for an ALTA.  Customer service says to return it.  What a disappointment.

I just bought my Blaze and had trouble with the software update at first.  So, I put it on charge and restarted the process over on my phone and it worked just fine and took about 7 minutes.  I had to click the update software on the phone app to restart the process, but then had no problem.

When started my update initially I waited for 30+ mins and nothing happened. Restarting my phone fixed my updating issue.

I decided to fully charge my blaze and then try again. The difference was amazing, my fitbit blaze was set up in about 5 minutes!!

I keep getting update fail...I have restarted it several times. I also just tried again after restarting my HTC ONE M9, which is supposed to be compatible. My Charge HR works just fine with the phone, so I don't know what the deal is. The Blaze accepted the 4-digit code, but then the 10-minute firmware update chokes...quite frustrating.

Updated the Blaze while it was in the cradle charging. It updates in 10 minutes using iOS Fitbit app.

Hi there,

I just got off the phone with Fitbit support after an hour and a half of troubleshooting. I had the same issues which were:

Battery icon not showing when charging (Is it charging or not? Yes, it was but couldn't tell.)

Firmware Update required out of the box but wasn't successful.

Need battery life in order to complete the firmware update.

The issue was solved by:

1) Be on Wifi signal (Mobile Data isn't strong enough)

2) Charge the Blaze in the cradle even if you don't see the battery icon as demonstrated in the instructions. Yes, it feels like the Blaze doesn't fit into the cradle, but it was working, just couldn't tell.

3) Complete the Firmware Update. You must be connected to Bluetooth and WiFi. (You may have to restart your cell phone and the Blaze itself before starting the update or else you will get a "Try Again" message".

You will not get the battery icon when charging right out of the box. Charge it anyway and when you sync the Blaze to your phone, the display will update with the battery progress. Say for instance, "battery full".

If you have already attempted the firmware update and failed try this:

Make sure you are connected to both Bluetooth and WiFi

1) Re-start you cell phone

2) Log out of the App or uninstall and re-install the app before logging back in.

3) Re-start the FitBit

4) Go back to the Fitbit app, login to your account, and restart the Firmware update process.

The update is happening if you get a progress bar underneath the Fitbit icon on both your cellphone and the underneath the Fitbit icon on your Blaze tracker. Once you see the Blaze Clock on your tracker, that it a very good indiciation that your firmware update is complete! When you go back to the dashboard, you  will notice stats already counting.... Good luck!

Sounds exactly like how my setup went. I guess I saved myself and hour and a half of Fitbit Support talk time. Thanks for reassuring me that I didn't lose my marbles and was doing something wrong. Glad it's working.

After about 5 HOURS, I finally got the firmware update and even went for an evening "run" (which may look like a walk to many, but it is running for me). Now, it would be nice to have more (and larger) clock face options, and the ability to do more things with my "ancient" HTC One (M9). I hope Fitbit folks are working on those types of updates, and that they don't take as much time. That was heinous!

Thanks to those who posted similar issues! It let me know I wasn't crazy.

Yes it takes forever. Not impressed with the TOTAL lack of info on the set up of the device.

You pop the fitbit out of the holder it is in to put it in the charger.

I cancelled mine after 40 minutes, but the second one was not faster at all... Took me about 80 minutes to run the firmware update.
