I have used the surge seamlessly for 1.5yrs before a battery issue. As the surge was no longer sold/available I opted to replace it with the Blaze. I was slightly misled by the shop assistant in regards to GPS.
I play and referee soccer (football). I want to use the "connected GPS" feature without carrying my iPhone. I searched for answers to this issue but didn't find anything.
A few questions:
- Does the Blaze disconnect from my iPhone if it goes out of distance? Does it automatically reconnect? How is the data recorded in the interim?
- Is it possible to use a device to extend the Bluetooth range of your iPhone or blaze? Does anyone do this?

Thanks for your replies Patrun.
Essentially I just wanted to know whether I could use the blaze as a replacement for my surge. It is not a replacement for a product with in-built GPS. In summary:
- Data lost when you go out range of your phone
- Blaze automatically reconnects with your phone when it drops out of range
- The result is that it estimates your route on the map afterwards
- Have investigated extending Bluetooth signal from your iPhone but not the savy to find a solution.
- Would not recommend if the GPS feature is important to you and you do not carry your phone on your person whilst exercising.

There is really no way to do this without carrying your phone. The Blaze does not have a GPS chip and it will indeed disconnect as you move away from the phone.

Will it reconnect if it comes back into range? What happens to the data when it disconnects?
Does the blaze automatically reconnect or do you have to manually pair it via the blaze again?

It will not automatically reconnect and all GPS data in between is lost.

Also the connected GPS is reasing the position of the phone, not the position of the tracker and you. If you did stay connected to a non-moving phone there will not be a map drawn because the GPS source is not moving.
