Blaze is adjusting steps and lowering the step counts

I have observed this strange behavior (or may be happening for some reason) in blaze. Blaze first counted 7000+ steps (that includes daily steps plus running) and then later in the day automatically adjusted to 6000+ steps. I saw this behavior twice in last week. Any clue?

Hi @DineshGautam! Thanks for bringing your question to the community! We will al that we can to help you! First, I would try a simple restart on your Blaze. Below you will find the short steps you have to take in order to restart your tracker:

1.) Press and hold the Back and Select buttons (left and bottom right) until you see the Fitbit logo on the screen. This should take less than 10 seconds.
2.) Let go of the buttons.

Let me know if that helps!

Sure, I'll restart the blaze. But I won't know if it solve the issue until I check it for next few days. I'll update here accordingly. Thanks.

@DineshGautam, I have had it happen to me once. Not sure why but I just thought it was a glitch. I was at the gym in the morning and noticed that my blaze registered about 7000+ steps. There is no way I could have walked that many steps in the morning. After my workout I did a sync and it only registered about 3000+ steps on my app. I don't have my blaze set to auto sync. I don't wear my blaze at night, so In the morning when I seen the 7000+ steps during my workout I thought maybe it was because I had not synced my blaze in the morning. Anyhow I've only had it happen to me once. You might want to track your blaze for a week. Not sure if you use auto sync or if you sync manually. If this is happening a lot at least you will have some information when you contact customer support. Good luck

@Aclobos, My case looks different than yours. My blaze is set to auto sync and sync through out the day. (I love looking at the dashboard multiple times during the day Smiley Happy ). So I know how fairly how much I walked/ran during the day. I have restarted my blaze, let see if I encounter similar behavior in coming days. Thanks.

A warm welcome to the Community @DineshGautam@RunningFreak and @Aclobos thanks for stopping by.

I would like to know how are you logging this activity? Are you registering directly from the tracker, letting SmartTrack or are you manually logging it? In the meantime, I would like you to walk 100 steps and let me know how many your Blaze registered.

Hope to hear from you soon. Woman Happy

@AlejandraFitbitI walked 100 steps multiple time and Blaze registered about same steps (1 or 2 steps here & there sometimes). In fact, as suggested by @RunningFreak I rebooted Blaze and I haven't see the problematic behavior again yet. Thanks.

Mine is counting inaccurately as well the last 2 weeks I'm about to junk it and buy an appple watch. Majorly under counting steps walk 20-30 steps counts nothing.  It seems to be a problem and they are not addressing it.

Yes I have several times this is a 2 day old tracker and it's not tracking. I've restarted 5 times, unregistered and re registered now what? This is absolute junk! I've owned every Fitbit you have made this is the worst and most expensive one!

I have just rec'd a replacement Blaze from Fitbit this morning.  Follow the set up and got it up and running.  When I took off my old Blaze, it registered 15,218 steps.  After I set up the replacement, the steps went down to 14,932.  I just followed your suggestion by pressing the back and lower right buttons to reset the Blaze, the end result was 14,762.  Now I walk 100 steps, my Blaze showed 14,861 (99 steps close enough in my book).  But what's up with the decrease of steps.  I had the same problem with my old Blaze, what causes this decrease in steps?

Hi @Chien747! Since your previous tracker was problematic, the problem could very well be with the other tracker and it’s incorrect tracking. I would watch your new tracker for a few days and see if it causes the same problem.

I saw your earlier posting that your problem seemed to have resolved after
you restarted your Blaze. My problem is after I restarted the Blaze I
actually lost some more steps. Then I did the exercise of walking 100
steps, I gained 99 steps back, now I'm losing again from 14861 to 14553.
And this is a brand new Blaze.

I'm confused with your reply.  What other tracker are you talking about?  My old Blaze?  It has been put away in a box.  What I have on my wrist is the new Blaze I just rec'd this morning.

I saw one of your posting indicated that your problem was resolved since you "restarted" your Blaze.  As I mentioned that after I restarted mine, I went from 14932 to 14762, and after I did that little exercise of walking 100 steps, I went from 14762 to 14861 (gaining 99 steps), now for no reason at all, I went down to 14553 then 14531.

Sorry for the confusion, the problem could be with your old tracker. I would suggest watching your new Blaze for a few days to see if the issue persists. If it does, I could almost assure you the problem is not with your new Blaze. It would probably be a problem with your Fitbit app or something. If the issue continues to persist, I would suggest posting your question in the help forums for your relevant operating system. If that doesn’t work, I would try contacting Fitbit support again, live chat is the best in my opinion. Also, if you do contact Fitbit support, it’s always best to be as specific as possible. I hope this helps! If it doesn’t, feel free to reply back with any questions!

You say your old Blaze registered 15,218 but havent said what the app showed when removing the old Blaze.

Do you mean removed the old Blaze from the account, or did you setup your new Blaze as a replacement tracker?

The restart procedure simply restarts the firmware and should not have amy affect on the step count on the tracker.

I did not create another account, I set up the new Blaze as a "replacement".  I reached 20,112 steps this afternoon (by walking), now after dinner, it went down to 19,408.  Biggest mystery so far on my years as a Fitbit user since 2013.
